In a city whose mayor has made gun control one of his signature issues, it's no surprise that the number of registered gun owners has gone down. The Post reports that there are now 36,169, versus 38,000 last year. Permits that allow one to wear a gun on a holster (concealed) also dropped to 2,555, which the Sun says is almost 50% less than the 2004 number. Of course, there's now way to estimate illegal gun ownership.
The NRA's belief is that the downward trend shows how NYC only gives licenses to the rich, with their spokesperson telling the Sun, "If you're a plain Joe or Jane, you're out of luck, and they're the people who really need protection." Well, apparently the U.S. is the most armed country in the world, with 90 guns for every 100 citizens, according to the Graduate Institute of International Studies. Next is Yemen with 61 guns per every 100 citizens.
The Post compiled a list of some notable people with gun permits: Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr.; Howard Stern; Don Imus; lawyers Barry Slotnick and Raoul Felder; Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno; news anchor John Roland; Tommy Mottola; Ronald Lauder; Robert DeNiro; and Harvey Keitel. As it happens, former NYPD Commissioner Howard Safir let his license lapse.

here we go again...
Hopefully these people with concealed gun permits can shoot better than the average dumb butt NYPD officer that needs to empty their gun clips four times before they actually hit a perp.
#2:
plain and simple, you're an idiot.
I hope they shoot better too but since they got the permit because it's a rare commodity, I highly doubt they shoot better than the cops.
when was the last time you saw harvey keitel at the range? it's all preferential treatment.
#3, I'm not #2, but he has a point. How can you call him an idiot for stating a factual point? You must sympathize with the corrupt force of those who have permits to fire at will upon citizens whose gun rights are slowly being taken away every day by a government who understands exactly how this country was founded. Once you take guns away from the normal people, the government will have complete control over every aspect of your life.
#5 What "factual point"?
Gun owners should be allowed to shoot anyone that appears to be stupid. Fortunately for those that want to move forward that means a huge decrease in the population of the world.
Who says the politicians have the right to say that certain people are dumb?
George Washington was a good example of a lot about nothing. He rode around on a white horse while his soldiers were starving and walking bleeding barefoot in the snow. Plus he was gay. How many children did George have? I think he liked French, Polish and German generals in particular.
Who cares... it's not the licensed gun owners we need to worry about. I'd feel safer if it had gone up.
Pn an entirely different note . . . am i the only who is really surprised that in a city of 8 million only 38,000 have gun permits. That's got to be a really low per capita (legal) gun ownership compared to other parts of the country. Does anyone know the stats?
One thing that may inflate gun-ownership numbers is the fact that guns last basically forever. They're not like consumer electronics or automobiles, with short shelf lives. Many of the umpteen millions of guns owned in America are basically heirlooms, bought many years or decades ago.
This article is actually very, very misleading. They really need to differentiate between all the various types of firearms and firearms permits that are available. Basically, what they are talking about are Concealed Carry Handgun Permits, which the article is correct in stating are extremely difficult to obtain (as they should be - I don't think people should be walking around NYC with handcannons). However, it is pretty easy to get a Range and Premises Permit to keep a handgun in your home and transport it (unloaded in a locked bag) to a range for some shooting. It is also easy to get a license to buy a rifle or shotgun and keep it in your home. I am all for people keeping guns in their homes for protection, but I don't feel safe with people walking the streets armed (especially Trump).
As soon as I saw the poor grammar in the headline, I said "That has to be Jen Chung." Scroll down and there it is.
I saw Harvey Keitel on the street down in Tribeca once about twenty years ago and I wouldn't allow him to carry a cap gun. The dude is strange and angry about something that only chemicals can cure.
His best buddy Bobby Dinero is the only reason he has an acting career. Both are basically living off their past reps.
Boobie D seems to have an affection of reproducing with black chicks. Why doesn't he do a movie that portrays their suffering? He's a piece of crap.
It's nice to have a gun around the house, especially when you feel depressed and desperate...
Grammar police: So that should read "Number of NYC Gun Owners Decreases" , since "number" is singular? Good catch, actually.
As one of these gun owners (but not a CCHP) I need to say going to the range for an hour is better than any therapy or drugs for stress. Also scares the crap out of my teenage daughter's boyfriends.
Why does Harvey Keitel need to carry a gun? Anyone see "Bad Lieutenent"? The guy is already packing heat.

News for you... people are already walking around with hand cannons in New York City. They're just illegal ones.
Where the hell have you all been ? This story has been going on for the ten years now ! The driving force behind the decrease in Gun Permits issued in NYC has to do with those Unlicensed Guns currently out on the streets ! It's just another form of Selective enforcement, The local Government drives the up the cost of registering a gun . Which in turn forces normal folks with limited funds to forgo the whole process , All in the name of "SAFETY" ! A few years ago, I applied for a Pistol Permit and was told that there would be a thirty day waiting period, That I had to purchase a safe to store my firearm in, & that it had to be stored in a location towards where "Little hands" couldn't reach . While I understood the language of the rules it does nothing to assure the safety of others . This is a fact that has been played out on a regular basis across the country . Still it doesnt give the
Government the right limit the use of Firearms to those with the funds to afford them ! Sadly, Those like Mayor Bloomberg use each and every incident as a "Drawing Point" to further their rhetoric that "Guns are bad and you shouldn't own one" . Posted by; "Still Not Amused"
