Lance Bass took a bite of the Big Apple, only to spit it right back out. NY Mag reported that the ex-'n Syncer, who is in town starring as Corny Collins in Hairspray, said he doesn't like New York too much.
“There’s a lot of pieces of crap here for a lot of money,” he says. “And I don’t think anyone here has any style. I was looking at fully furnished places and it was like, you can either have a bunch of floral prints or some dusty couch from the 1960s.”Oh Lance, we don't care how many LVHRD events you attend - you're not making many friends in this city you "love".
In a letter to NY Mag Bass tries to take it all back, saying "I love the city and I now plan to get a permanent residence here and be bi-coastal," signing his letter as a "Proud New Yorker." On his MySpace page he writes a little more freely, saying:
"for those that read the New York mag article…I said none of those negative quotes! I expect bloggers to print fake things and its all in fun..but when a real journalist misquotes me and prints fake quotes that I said..that is just crazy!! And, I dont think legally they can do that! Can they? This dumb reporter just put words in my mouth and turned everything I said into a negative."And on former bandmate Justin Timberlake's new restaurant, he says he does go but that “it’s really up there. The Upper East Side? I’m not in college anymore.”

the upper east side for college students? maybe the waspy ones going back to see mum and pop
"that is just crazy!!" But I have to agree - there is a lot of crap out there for too much money.
Wow, someone's a bit bitter.
does anyone actually CARE?
He looks so fake.
What does mean about the Upper East Side being for college aged kids?
Lots of young people live *far* East, like on 2nd Ave. The inconvenience plus the unhipness of the UES apparently make it relatively affordable.
That picture depects the ravages of age quite clearly.
#5 Yes, literally- methinks that's a wax figure..
He's starting to look like Liberace.
He's a washed up fuck anyway, so what do his thoughts matter?
Helloooo? You didn't get the memo? "Washed up" is the new "in", babyyyy!!
That is indeed a wax figure -- click the flickr link and note the comment. But yeah, looks pretty similar to the real thing.
Wow I stand corrected. I thought that was In front of some snazzy gay bar. Sad I couldnt tell it wasnt actually him.
Can't believe people take that hack, Jada Yuan, seriously AND who cares about Lance?
Whatever.... I don't even know who he is anyway.
Oops, my bad. I should've read the link and would've known! But I was right that it looked fake.
Forget bi-coastal, the dude sounds bi-polar.
I have to agree though that the UES is a haven for post-college frat boys.
Lance is a "has been." He should be thankful that he's even got the job in Hairspray to try to resusitate his career. If he doesn't like NYC, then quit the job and leave. Nobody cares.
As a New Yorker living on the upper east side who is currently closing on buying a modest one-bedroom, I'd have to say that washed up or not, Mr. Bass pretty much called it. The only saving grace is that if you buy the pieces of crap for a lot of money instead of rent them for a lot of money, you can sell them as fixed up pieces of crap for even more money. I was renting a one bedroom for $3,400/mo for years, but have finally tired of medical waste from the OBGYN downstairs winding up on my porch (mostly used latex gloves)and the mice that frolicked amongst the discarded paps and gloves running across my kitchen floor at night. I understand the new tenant moving in is happy to pay 4,000/mo. Ah, New York...I do love this city, but man...what we pay for and put up with is amazing.
Well, as you were apparently paying $3400/mo rent for years, I don't see why you'd complain about the medical waste and rodents.
At least you had easy access to free condoms and free food.

uh, yikes...I think you actually made Mr. Bass' point, #21.
I agree -- I agree with you #20; there you are paying around 40k a year for that kind of typical NYC garbage (literally) and at a certain point, you realize you're living like a college student amongst mice and litter.
I'm glad someone finally had the guts to tell it like it is in new york city! Might be the only time I've applauded Lance Bass, but he's right and I applaud him saying it!
