MUSIC: There's not a whole lot going on musically tonight, but the show at Cake Shop seems pretty...sweet. By The End of Tonight and Multitudes will be taking the stage -- the former is described as "the perfect marriage between the math-rockiness of Hella with the glistening, soaring guitars of Explosions in the Sky."

FILM: The Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance and the Municipal Art Society present their new documentary, City of Water, at a special screening tonight presented by the Friends of Gantry Neighborhood Parks at Hunters Point. The film delves into "the aspirations of the public, elected officials, members of the maritime industry, environmentalists, and recreational boaters in creating a waterfront that is accessible, vibrant, environmentally sensitive and diverse."

A discussion with the film's directors, waterfront activists and policy makers will follow the screening.

The Library of Congress's film curator Mike Mashon takes you on a trip down memory lane with footage of New York from 1898 to 1906. The Library's Paper Print Collection preserves "more than 3,000 turn-of-the-20th-century American movies, including scenic views of a long-vanished New York." The hour long big screen tribute, NYC Treasures, might make you nostalgic for the olden days, even if you weren't there.

2007_08_arts_lonesome.jpg1929's Lonesome (pictured) will screen afterwards (2 for the price of 1!). The film follows two New Yorkers who meet and lose each other during a Coney Island adventure. The film is silent, with talking sequences and synchronized musical score. More details on both films, here.
