Attorney General Alberto Gonzales Resigns

2007_08_albertogonzalez.jpgThis is some way to start off the week before Labor Day weekend: U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned. The NY Times reports, per a White House source, that Gonzales called President Bush (who was at his ranch in Crawford) on Friday to submit his resignation: "His decision was not immediately announced, the official added, until after the president invited him and his wife to lunch at his ranch." Bush apparently accepted the resignation "grudgingly."

Gonzales has been under fire for his role in a wiretapping program and the firing of nine State Attorneys. But many believed that Bush would never fire Gonzales. Democrats and conservatives have been unhappy with Gonzales. Senator Charles Schumer has been asking for Gonzales to resign since March of this year, saying, that the Attorney General "either doesn’t accept or doesn’t understand that he is no longer just the president’s lawyer, but has a higher obligation to the rule of law and the Constitution, even when the president should not want it to be so.”

There will be a press conference at 10:30AM. Solicitor General Paul Clement may take over as temporary Attorney General.

since it's a quote, I assume it's the official that has the awful English, rather than the copywriter.

"His decision was not announced immediately announced, the official added, until after the president invited him and his wife to lunch at his ranch near here".

Did the official add that the official added in the quote? Or was he announcing the announcement?

HAIL AND JAILCELL

Adios, Alberto Gonzales,
You lied and stole your salary,
Earning a close third place
On the Bushite Rogues Gallery.

No. 2 is Dick Cheney,
A villain past all belief,
And heading the dirty roster,
Our own Commander in Thief.

Humm... Not particularly aggressive or conservative... and a Hispanic with anything but a silver spoon in his mouth... I'd think he'd have more fans. Where are the Hispanic leaders in arms over this head hunt?
Janet Reno was a true example of a horrible AG... The lost souls in Waco TX, and Elián González would surly agree.

The dickheads are falling in-line now ! This has to be a good sign ! Posted by; "Still Not Amused"

Those Hispanic leaders are out to lunch with the black leaders who ignore the race baiting comments that those on the left make about Condoleeza Rice.
