1 Killed, 3 Injured When Drunk Driver Barrels Down 7th Avenue South

A drunk man driving a Lincoln Aviator slammed into people delivering groceries at restaurant on Seventh Avenue South near Grove Street yesterday morning. Antonio Barranco Hernandez, who had taken a delivery shift over from his son, died after the impact of the SUV severed his leg. A witness told the Daily News, "[The SUV] was going very fast. The car cut his leg. The leg, right off."

The SUV was driven by NJ resident Christian Robinson. According to witnesses, Robinson seemed to lose control of his vehicle when he tried to avoid hitting another car. The Aviator then plowed into the parked van where Hernandez and other workers had been unloading groceries for the Mercadito restaurant. Augusto Bravo was pinned between the two cars, with his leg nearly severed, while Luis Romero, who was in the van, suffered deep cuts. Also taken to the hospital was 11-year-old Erick Bravo, the son of the van's driver, Victor Bravo (who was in the restaurant at the time of incident).

Robinson was charged with vehicular manslaughter, DWI, and vehicular assault. Bravo said of Robinson, "The driver got out of his car after the crash and put his hands on his head. He was so shaken and freaked out. He didn't know what to do." And Hernandez's son, Antonio Hernandez Jr., lamented to the Post, "I feel horrible, but now I'm responsible for my family. He was a good father. He supported me in everything I wanted to do. I can't believe this happened to him."

The accident took place at 7:20AM, when streets are less crowded and vehicles are more prone to speed. But really, 50 MPH?
