there are still gonna be solid red and blue yankees caps, and if there weren't the gang members will still have the flags that the pattern on the above caps reference. while hats don't kill people wearing the wrong colored one on the wrong block might just get someone cut. still, gangs will always find ways of representing and while pulling these hats does little to change that, i think it's lame for a company to try to drum up profit by catering to gangs. maybe i'm just an idealist, but i'd like to think there are more important things than making money. and those of you lamenting about the free market, protesting and boycotts are elements of just that and use the power of a free market to bring about change. the company is still entirely free to sell their product, but they gave into market pressure.

Didn't someone from the Yankees camp have to approve them as well? They must have rules about how their logo is used at least as far as colors, size, proximity to other logo elements, etc.

Kudos to New Era for allowing gang members to not only show their gang colors, but to also show their loyalty to their favourite sports teams. It is just another great decision from Major League Baseball and of course New Era who makes caps in all the colours of the rainbow for all the baseball teams, no matter how outlandish, absurd, and unlike the team's colours they are. There is no doubt that this most likely came from the top of Major League baseball, right from the office of Bud Selig who is the greatest baseball mind in the history of the game and holds the integrity of the game dear to his heart. Kudos to you Bud Selig for recognizing that even gang members are baseball fans and with officially licensed products in gang colors they can show their love of the game. Thank you Bud Selig for also giving the gang members great role models like Barry Bonds who's clean living and good sportsmanship no doubt serve as a shining example to these gangster-Americans. Keep up the good work Bud and soon you'll replace basketball and football as the gang member and delinquent's sport of choice. Perhaps Bud should look into further cross licensed products with the gangs. No doubt, Louisville Slugger would work well for a cross branding, since gang members also do use baseball bats, so why not have a bat of their favourite team already in gang colours perfect for the next street rumble.

Post # 8, "Guest," has it right. While I don't cotton to the gang ethos, vibe or lifestyle, the free market should be free. If we have problems with people signifying gang affiliation, we should do something to stigmatize that, not keep someone from making a buck (though New Era has enough $$$). The bigot who blames minorities ("Albert Sharpton" whom I despise) is annoying and, sadly, probably lamenting his diminishing status as white supremacy erodes.

Who was the numbnuts at New Era who approved this? Gangs have been wearing pro sporting goods to signify their affiliation for YEARS. It seems pretty obvious.
