- Mets 5 Dodgers 2: Omar has to be smiling about the Oliver Perez trade. Yes, Xavier Nady is a nice outfielder, but Perez is developing into something special. He showed this ability before, in 2004, but after that he was bad enough to get traded away by Pittsburgh. Now, he is averaging almost a strikeout an inning and is second on the Mets with 12 wins.
Friday night, Perez pitched seven shutout innings and out-pitched one of the best in the NL, Brad Penny. David Wright had a home run and Mike DiFelice went 3-for-3 as the Mets won the series opener.
- Tigers 9, Yankees 6 (11 innings): It's a good thing last night's game ended in the 11th inning. It took almost four and a half hours to actually play the game after a four hour rain delay before Carlos Guillen finally ended things with a game-winning home run. Both bullpens pitched several scoreless innings, as the starting pitchers (Roger Clemens and Andrew Miller) left early after surrendering 6 runs each. It came down to Sean Henn in the 11th, who allowed two two-out singles before Guillen ended the game. The only players the Yankees didn't use were Wilson Betemit and reliever Brian Bruney, who joined the team from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier in the day.
- Liberty 73 Detroit 51: The Liberty jumped out to a series lead with a great performance by Shameka Christon. Christon scored 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as the Libs outscored the Shock 48-26 in the second-half for the win.
- Vermont 10 Staten Island 0: Zachary McAllister simply didn’t have it and gave up nine runs in only three innings of work.
- Tigers 9, Cyclones 2 (Game 1): Yet another Tiger team defeated a New York team last night. The Oneonta Tigers, who are the Detroit Tigers' farm team, beat the team that had a surefire candidate for the Majors. Paul Lo Duca on a rehab assignment was 0-2 with a walk in the game.
- Tigers 9, Cyclones 7 (Game 2): Can't the Tigers just give New York some love? While this game was closer than game 1 of the doubleheader, the Cyclones still lost. Paul Lo Duca was 2-3 with a home run in this game. He became the first Major League player to hit a home run during a rehab assignment with the Cyclones.
