Last Night's Action: No, You Take It
- Padres 9, Mets 8 (10 innings): After playing two back-and-forth games, the Mets and Padres pulled out all the stops in this 10-inning affair. All the stops, that is, except the ability to hold leads. The Mets rallied from a 6-1 deficit in the sixth inning to take a one-run lead, but Billy Wagner blew that as the Padres took the lead in the top of the ninth. Not to worry. For the second time in three days, the Mets got to future Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman to send the game to extra innings. Then Adrian Gonzalez hit a solo homer off Aaron Heilman -- not a future Hall of Famer -- to give the Padres the rubber game. On the bright side, Marlon Anderson continues to reward Willie Randolph's overzealous use of veterans, and Carlos Beltran has 13 RBIs in his last four games.
- S.I. Yankees 13, Lake Monsters 9: The Yankees exploded for nine runs against Vermont in the fifth inning and added two runs in the ninth just to make sure. Jason Stephens got the win despite imploding in the fifth
