Video of the Day: The MP3 Experiment

This past Saturday anyone with a music playing device was invited to The World Financial Center Plaza by the North Cove Yacht Harbor. Potential participants were told to be there by 4pm, to wear a red, blue, yellow, or green t-shirt, to bring a watch with a second hand and a camera if possible, and to download an mp3 from their site.

Sound familiar? It was the fourth Mp3 Experiment organized by Improv Everywhere. Ah, that Charlie Todd never ceases to amuse us. Below is a time lapse video of what the scene looked like.

For on-the-ground footage, go here. In total, 826 people downloaded the same mp3, pressed play at the same time, and, you know, had an experience.

looks like fun, wished I could of known about it since I live in one of the buildings nearby.

Looked like some people shared their headphones to join in the fun.

what does that even mean "guest"

  • guest

What was the mp3 you had to download? Did it contain instructions for them for how to act, or was it just music?

  • guest

And you're no "add robinson." On any of the internets.

Is it just me, or am I the only one who sees the huge contradiction in the name "improv everywhere" and the fact that these 'improv' events are planned weeks in advance and the info about who/what/where/when is disseminated all over the Internets. That is not improv. "

no it's not improv. Come to Chicago for some real improv. These people are just dorks.

stupid. i hate improv everywhere. "culture jamming" is soooo ad busters circa 1998

    Imrov is short for improvisation

The defination of improvisation is below

    1. a creation spoken or written or composed extemporaneously (without prior preparation)

    2. an unplanned expedient

    3. a performance given extempore without planning or preparation

Seriously amazing. I wish I hadn't been busy on Saturday.

  • guest

I'm not trying to be a smartass or disparaging, but I really don't get it. Maybe I just couldn't tell that much detail from the video.

  • jenchungsgrammar

I was there too, more fun than drugs!

  • freshyill

This was a lot of fun, and what a perfect day for it too. I can't wait until next year.
