- Yankees 8 Angels 2: Don’t let the final score fool you, this was a much closer game. The Yankees scored in the fourth and the Angels scored in the sixth to make it 1-1 heading into the seventh. That’s where the starting pitching diverged. Andy Pettitte continued his brilliance while John Lackey ran into trouble. New York scored twice in the seventh and four-times in the eighth to blow the game open.
The win moved Joe Torre past Casey Stengel into second place all-time on the Yankees’ managerial win list. There may have been better tactical managers in Yankees’ history, but there hasn’t been a better man at the helm.
- Padres 7 Mets 5: They worked hard to make another great comeback, but this time they fell just short. Down 7-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, They made things interesting with the tying run on and Carlos Delgado up, but Carlos struck out against Trevor Hoffman to end the game.
- D.C. 3 Red Bulls 1: D.C. United took the Atlantic Cup and saw former Red Bull, Jaime Moreno, become the all-time leading goal scorer. To make matters worse, the loss put the Red Bulls behind D.C. United for the final conference playoff spot.
- Brooklyn 4 Oneonta 2: Raul (not Jose) Reyes had three hits and a RBI while Dillon Gee pitched four strong innings for the win.
- Staten Island 13 Vermont 2: The Savannah College of Art and Design may not be considered a hotbed of baseball talent now, but it might be soon. Ryan Pope, an alumnus and third-round pick of the Yankees, went six innings while striking out eight and allowing only two runs. He is a long way from the Bronx, but his first 30+ innings have gone very well.

It's worth mentioning that the Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 30-3, setting a new record. And it was the first game of a doubleheader!
