Fatal Car Accident in Kensington

2007_08_ppcrash.jpgAround 1:30AM, a livery cab driver who decided to help another livery cab with car trouble is now dead. An allegedly drunk driver fatally struck him near Church Avenue and Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn

The good samaritan livery cab driver spied that a fellow livery cab was stopped in the middle lane on an exit ramp off the Prospect Expressway. WABC 7 reports that the 50-year-old man was "getting out of the driver's side of his vehicle" when he was "struck by a 2007 Toyota Camry." The Camry then hit a Honda.

The 22-year-old Camry driver is facing DWI charges and may face others. The stopped livery cab's driver and the Honda's driver were treated for their injuries.

Hey, to all who doubted my prediction that the drunk driver would be a dirtbag Russian -- I was wrong.

About the name, that is. His name ended in -yev.

I agree that the punishment for a dui needs to be sharply increased... especially in NYC, where there is absolutely NO excuse for driving drunk and the risks to other people are more significant. These aren't folks taking the back roads home in the burbs (not that that's ok either). Drunk driving on Ocean Pwky, Queens Blvd, etc. is unacceptable.

if you dont like the neighborhood, you can leave, no ones stopping you. besides, the names of the parties involved were not given.

i live in the area of the accident. i saw aftermath last night from my window. theres always fenderbenders occuring at that light. my guess is that people dont expect to confront a traffic light on an expressway.

add to that some drunk idiot and you have a tragedy like what happened last night.

  • #8.. that's the same reason the guns laws are lax.

Politicians drink and politicians drink and drive.

Those are two major reasons that there will never be a major revision of drinking and driving laws to stiffen the penalties.

10:31 -- Northbound, southbound, doesn't matter. The Camry was almost certainly headed to somewhere in Brighton Beach, and the drunk's last name will end in a -sky or -ov. How long have you lived in Brooklyn not to know such realities?

Hey other guest (posting from 9:54am)..i live in that area too, and before making dumbass comments how bout looking at the facts. the cars were going southbound which means that they were driving from prospect to ocean. the picture even show this, the cars are aiming away from the I278 sign. So before you make comments about different ethnicities, why don't you look in the mirror?

    Fuckin' people.

I am with edEX all the way on this. Make it a lose/lose situation and they may think twice. Notice I said "may". Some people NEVER learn.

I live in that area. The death is a sad irony -- usually livery cab drivers are the likeliest asshole drivers in this neighborhood.

But where the accident happened is no coincidence -- because there is no greater asshole driver than the vodka-addled Russian screaming up Ocean Parkway to make that last traffic light before the road turns into the Prospect expressway.

  • i think it's time to revise the DWI punishment... 10 years in the clink, no parole. Plus the loss of the car and and a $100,000 fine.

The Camry then hit another Honda.

The Camry is a Toyota - so, that either be revised to read "...another car" or to "...hit a Honda."

    thanks.
