What's on Your Wi-Fi?

With New York adding Wi-Fi access to the Internet in city parks recently, some New Yorkers must be making use of the coverage in more than the usual way of checking one's email or what's new on Gothamist while one is in the park on a lunch break. The Wall Street Journal Online recently added a video podcast called "Tech Diary" to its site that has journalist Andy Jordan exploring the sometimes-odd intersection of technology and people.

In his latest installment, Jordan headed to Wi-Fi hotzone Bryant Park to see what people were using the Internet for in a completely public place. The results are interesting: a religious study group, marketing Mandy Moore's new album, yoga, an online opera audition, and managing a business where giant rats are used to detect explosive land mines. We'll have to pay more attention to what people are working on the next time we're in Bryant Park.

I have a dorky, techy question for anyone who knows the answer...

I've got tons of wifi running through my apartment (neighborhood of 80 ssids)...as it has gotten more saturated, I've noticed some things don't work so well anymore (e.g. my wii wireless, my wireless mouse)....

As we all get more saturated, is this stuff going to start not working?

Hey,

This so sounds like my company. I work at www.beYOU.tv, we offer video-on-demand and downloadable fitness, wellness and educational videos. I hope to see people rocking beYOU.tv in the parks with their new Wi-Fi!
