Taping and Taunting Traffic Agents

2007_08_justice.jpgThis morning, the Today show featured a segment about a NYC resident (and Mets fan, judging by his hat) who calls himself Jimmy Justice and spends his days documenting various civil servants - mainly traffic enforcement agents - committing various sins. It's like Uncivil Servants with more than a dash of confrontational TV.

You can see Jimmy Justice's videos here on YouTube. He asks a traffic agent why she's parked in front of a hydrant, why one has made an illegal U-turn and why one went to the Rite Aid. Jimmy Justice told Today show correspondent Kerry Sanders, "I’m not a superhero in the same vein as Superman or Batman, but if you want to call me a superhero, so be it.” Well, here's a video where nuances of double parking and duty are parsed:

He also explained that he took to videotaping civil servants breaking the law because his written and telephone complaints were being ignored. Jimmy Justice added that he's shopping the concept to TV networks, "We want to call it ‘Civilians,.' It’s going to be like the anti-C.O.P.S.”

In related news, earlier we mentioned that tickets made out to legally parked cars were part of the NYPD's quotas (they can only be dismissed in court) and that four traffic enforcement agents faked tickets to look busier than they really were.

Wow, How obnoxious is that?

user-pic

why don't he have the balls to tape the NYPD and their abuses like the people featured on Streetsblog or whatever that site is?
this guy is a coward, plain and simple.

user-pic

While Jimmy Justice here might be a little overzealous in his ways (going to Rite Aid is no crime), there are plenty of times that those in power tend to bend the rules to their convinience and its nice to see someone calling them out on their shit. If Jimmy Justice calmed it down just a little, then maybe he would get some more credibility.

"hero"? How about pest. What a ridiculously over-inflated sense of self-importance.

user-pic

I'm torn. At first, I was all for him. But then I hear things like, "What're you gonna do? Bite me with your gold tooth?" There's a theme -- related to race and gender -- in these videos. It might be self-selecting, but I still got a bad vibe from it.

user-pic

Because a "Real" cop would arrest him for harassment Poster #2 ! Aside form that, This guy is just acting on what most people dream of doing to those who are in the position of authority & abuse it ! I have no problem with what he's doing, At that he's smart enough to know not to give his real name . That's just smart if him, I just wish that more people would take this guy's example and do something creative when they see those in authority abusing the rights inherited from their positions ! This guy is ultimately an asshole. Whiile the Civil Servants are breaking rules and regulations, this guys true motive is self publicity (see "shopping the concept to TV networks"). He's just a get rick quick (he thinks) entertainment industry wanna be.

user-pic

Wow...I never thought I would be moved to commit violence on behalf of a police officer, but this may well be the very moment.

What a precocious little twit, clearly encouraged a bit too much by Mom as evidenced by the absolutely glaring rash of personality defects.

By the way Jimmy Douche, at least do enough homework to know that it's perfectly legal for an officer to park outside of civilian regulations when enforcing them. You'd have a field day if you saw how a ladder company parks while NYFD personnel attempt to contain a structure fire after you rush out with your video camera and forget to turn off the coffee pot.

user-pic

Yeah, good idea but horrible execution. Those ticket writers have a tough enough time dealing with Jekyll turned Hyde New Yorkers that they have to issue tickets to. They definitely don't need to be accosted by some guy with a camera claiming that they're breaking the law when it's a part of their job to do what they are doing. Their job just happens to suck. A lot.

No one likes getting ticketed, especially when the average citizen makes an effort not to be, and they are rewarded for their imperfect diligence with zero sympathy and zero flexibility... which is kinda funny since I've gotten tickets that were issued by a slight bending of the rules on the part of the issuing officer that I can't "prove" to the judge... I mean finance clerk.

Go document that.

This guy is an ass...

Jimmy so caleed justice need to walk a day in the life of one of those traffic agents. Where's the justice when they are assulted wheres the justice when they are found guilty before trail because of the media and citizens with nothing else better to do then to follow agents all day every day. While your video taping catch some of that footage.

user-pic

Jimmy the Jerk is more like it..

user-pic

i hope one of these black female agents knocks him out and then bites off his pecker with her "gold tooth."

user-pic

As much as I hate getting parking violations and feel the itch to take it out on traffic enforcement that dude is a total punk. It looks as if the other Auxiliary was talking or helping the woman that was parked on the curb.

I can only hope this dude messes with one of them and then an officer rolls up in a real patrol car. If he tried that shit with a full on cop, he'd get taken out of the car by his face.

I for one, would like to see that.

Also, the fact that this guy seems to constantly target black meter maids is really telling about the content of his character.

There's a pack of old men in Fort Lauderdale who can't figure out how to work a video camera who would welcome this guy to their clique.

He can help them document how the landscapers start mowing at 7:55 when everyone knows the noise ordinance is in full effect until 8:00 and produce proof to the condo association that Norma Silverman's front door was painted the wrong shade of pink.

Although he seems like a young man, he's been possessed by the spirit of a yenta.

user-pic

...a yenta who refers to the hired help as "du,schwarze"

user-pic

Are you kidding?!?!! We need more people like this guy? Don't defend the metermaids!!!!

user-pic

We need more people who make the effort to go around holding civil servants accountable, but in a reasonable and respectful way.

This kid is truly insufferable, but then again, so are most brownies. On the one hand, I can admire the work he's doing, on the other hand it's clear that his goal was to get on the Today show... and now that he's done that, I wonder if this will all go away.

user-pic

I hope so too, tim n
but he was on countdown with KO last night they even had him playing his guitar. He sang the COPS theme and changed it to Jimmy justice is after you.
Is he Jewish?

user-pic

Good idea, horrible person to do it. Why the personal attacks on these people? What an ass.

In one video on his youtube page (traffic cop anderson breaks the law...) he gets into it w/a retired NYPD woman and calls her a cunt twice. Wow. This guy needs to be slapped around a few times.

user-pic

Some of you folks are undercover Racists! It's really sad you all want to pick on this guy for having the nerve to do what you all are either afraid to, OR Don't care enough to ! Posted by; "Still Not Amused"

user-pic

Why are there constant inquiries as to his Jewishness? Why would that make any difference? For those saying "kike," why are you assuming he's Jewish?

#31:
nothing is better than a racist who hides behind the "guest".
Thankfully the joke is on you since gothamist, i'm sure has recorded your IP address which points to you exact location (address), phone number and wonderfully, your name.

While I despise the brownies (ny traffic cop), I do not conssider JJ an avenger of anything. He's a stuoid little man with too much time on his hands. His 15 seconds of fame turned him into NY's worst kind of New Yorker, a whiney loser.

user-pic

Good lord, if this man is considered a "superhero," I'm quitting the Justice League.

As a previous poster said, I like the idea, but I don't like his style. The traffic agent eating lunch while parked at a hydrant is good, until the whole c*nt thing.

Some of the other confrontations are just silly. The DoE video is just obnoxious, and when an agent is writing a ticket, s/he can park "illegally" for a time.

Nice to see his seeming biases against Black female agents are reflected in most of Gothamist readers under GUEST when they need to know or comment on his perceived ethnicity.
