Complaining that Dateline NBC has lost its journalistic integrity is like complaining that MTV & VH1 don't play music videos anymore.

at least TVM is one of the few outlets questioning Dateline's tactics.

thanks for the esquire link, hansen sure does say "you know" a lot. You can't send in a mole into the hackers convention without a person outing her. she probably wore her manano blauniks or whatever trendy sex and the city wardrobe.

Fuck them ! You don't like the way Ur being portrayed by this media production ? Don't go out and rape little kids ! Posted by; "Still Not Amused"

nobody raped little kids.
easy there, big boi.

We have always doubted the journalistic value and practices of these "To Catch a Predator"
are you kidding me?! this show has opened the eyes of parents all around the country that child molesters/pedophiles come in all shapes & sizes. so what if that guy committed suicide? his family is upset that he didn't get to rape a little girl? now they are suing? what a family of scum. everyone else is just jealous of the success of the show. nobody is forcing these perverts to have sex chats with kids online & nobody is forcing them to drive to the house. i guess #2 is worried about his online activities when he isn't here.

Dateline is going down and not in a good way,
this Esquire article is really opening some eyes. Job well done Esquire, excellent investigative journalism. excellent. I read the entire 15 pages printed.
Excellent job by Esquire. You've got the ball rolling and now 20/20 is on it.

Quite simply, do it once - open people's eyes. Do it twice, - refresh their memory. When you loose track of how many times they have done it and you have people watching for the entertainment value, then it really ceases being journalism and has become entertainment. Are they bringing to light scum? Yes.
Is it journalism? Not any more. It is more like Candid Camera starring perverts. It has crossed the Rubicon into sensationalized entertainment long ago.

The Rolling Stone story on To catch a predator is also very good reading.

They could set up TCAP houses all over the country, and catch pervs all day and night for 100 years... but in addition there must be a way to prevent this, to spot warning signs or to get people help when they need it. Instead of just arresting, arresting, arresting. It's good that parents now know more, and it's good that pervs are now scared of getting caught. But there has to be more done than this.

"True it gets some reveals some bad people"

Huh?

I think the To Catch A Predator series is a worthwhile endeavor.

here's a warning sign, don't have your kid talk to adult strangers. No reason for a young child to need to chat with an "adult" on the internet.
the days of TCAP are OVER. they got greedy and are caught with their pants down. NOW the truth will come out.
The Rolling Stone article was very good, it reveals a lot about these internet nerds. They are the real perverts.

I felt the esquire article went after the dateline tactics for lack of a better description, the RS article went after the underlying nerds on the internet referring to Perverted justice.
but then the Esquire printout was 15 pages and the RS printout was 5.
I can't wait for this to go to court. if the town is against the chief and his lt. this is gonna be good.
Sounds like 20/20 will wait till it goes to court before airing their story.

The gothamist editing/grammar issues continue...

> True it gets some reveals some bad people,

> Then a few weeks ago the was the show's attempt to send a mole to
> this years DefCon hackers conference.

God help those poor souls over at WCBS. I have a feeling lots of people will be jumping ship there. Or at least jumping off the building. Wonder how long this gig will last...
