Pencil This In

THEATER: With his zany imagination and distinctive bass-baritone voice, Joseph Keckler (myspace) has been generating buzz throughout the gooey honeycomb of the downtown performance art cabaret scene. Tonight he sprinkles his particular blend of whimsical catnip at Dixon Place with Cat Lady, in which a man re-enacts an ordinary day with his mother, who runs a community theater with cat actors out of her home. “Past lives are recalled, songs are sung, and finally a trip to the vet's is made in this comedic and dark exploration of the relationship between art and trauma.” Part of the HOT! Festival. – John Del Signore

THEATER: In Keith Reddin's play Human Error, a plane crash site doubles as the setting for romantic turbulence between two investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board. When the mismatched couple find themselves drawn into the life of the lone survivor – whose wife was killed while they were walking in a field in back of their home – their investigation delves deeper into the merciless nature of freak accidents. The Post calls it “a modest but highly affecting work.” – John Del Signore

Saturday // 2:30pm & 7:30pm // Atlantic Stage 2 [330 West 16th St] // Tickets cost $35.

MUSIC: Start saying goodbye to summer - this Sunday marks the last pool party for the season (and maybe forever?). It also marks the show we've been most excited for: Ghostland Observatory! They played our Movable Hype show in 2005 - and we're pretty sure David Bowie regrets missing them by leaving that show after Clap Your Hands Say Yeah played. Don't miss the dance party at the Pool!
