One use for the Rudolph Giuliani mayoral archives: Figuring out how much time he actually spent at Ground Zero. Giuliani has referred to his Ground Zero presence a number of times, saying things like:
- “I was at ground zero as often, if not more, than most of the workers. I was there working with them. I was there guiding things. I was there bringing people there. But I was exposed to exactly the same things they were exposed to. So in that sense, I’m one of them.”
- "I was there often enough so that every health consequence that people have suffered, I could also be suffering. People on my staff were there with me. Some of them weren't there as often as I was, and some of them have gotten sick already."
Now the NY Times has gone back to figure out how much time he spent at the pit. Using his mayoral archives, the Times found he spent 29 hours between September 17 and December 16, 2001. There are no records for the time he spent there on September 11-15 (and the Times does acknowledge that the dust during the collapse was probably most dangerous), but most rescue workers typically worked hundreds of hours.
Detectives' Endowment Association president Michael Palladino said, "I think Mayor Giuliani did a fine job as mayor during probably the most difficult time in American history, especially in New York history. Having said that, it’s unfair for him to characterize himself as being in the same position as the first responders.”
The Times even has a chart showing the number of minutes Giuliani spent at Ground Zero.

Guiliani did nothing more or less than any other mayor of NY would have done put into the same circumstances. Give me a break.
Look, no one likes the guy, but Rudy did show when things were bad - you can't say the same of Ray Nagin of N.O. who stayed in his hotel suite for Katrina - you can't say that of Bush who skulked around when 9/11 and the hurricane hit. I'm sure if you follow the records, Rudy has met with more families of NYPD/FD and been to more funerals than Bush has for Iraq.
Look, I don't like Rudy either - but he has the right to crow about his actions around 9/11 - nothing like that had ever happened and while he made mistakes, he stood his ground. The man did what his office asked of him and, unfortunately, in this era of hollow leaders, meeting the minimum requirements of your job is something to brag about.
I Agree, I think it sad how hes using the death of other people to further his politacal agenda.
He's a one-note candidate with no substance who will never get the GOP nom. 'Nuff said.

How much of a prick is Rudy Giuliani? So much that he basically got fired from the Iraq Study Group by James Baker because he never went to any of the meetings.
And where was he instead? Cashing in on his 9/11 celebrity, giving motivational speeches for an organization called Life Win, Inc., which puts on "Get Motivated" (!) seminars all over the country.
You know the drill. Big stage show. Big music. Big lights. Big name celeb tells you to reach for your dreams. Big charge on your credit card.
How big? Big enough to pay Rudy a hundred grand per appearance (he did two while he was supposed to be at ISG meetings).
It seems like he gets nothing but negative press, yet he's way ahead in the polls - kind of scary, no? It looks the the Republican games have started way early this go around...!
I had a feeling this would happen. He's been hitting this one note so long and so hard that it was only a matter of time before the 9/11 Whore overplayed his hand. Now even his former admirers are turning on him.
If the terrorism card goes up on him, then he's got nothing left. Thompson's got the conservatives, McCain will have the independents, and Romney will have the new thinkers.
Maybe it's over.

What's really amazing is that most people CONTINUE to pretend that Rudy did a good job on 9/11 when even his old friends on the 9/11 Commission have said he basically killed most of the 3,000 dead.
(They just blame the NYPD / FDNY communication failures and so on and so on, and leave Rudy's name out of it.)
Even the Bush administration says Rudy killed most of the 3,000 dead. EX: the govt's spin is that 7 WTC came down b/c of Rudy's illegal fuel tank in the lobby (while others say it was demo'd). (No one can get Rudy to answer any questions, which should MAYBE clue people in but doesn't)
EX: all studies show the planes killed the minority of victims.The lack of ANY intelligent fire-fighting plan for skyscrapers is what razed both towers, acc to Rudy's allies,and RUdy himself backs me up and says he ran the FDNY with a tight fist. (Today, they still have no better plan for fighting skyscraper fires in NYC than letting the fire burn uncontrollably which is what causes all building collapses. DUH.)

Just as the media (such as supercriminals like CBS' Andrew Kirtzman) ADMITS they kept secret Rudy's adultery for 8 months (and only a GOSSIP columnist finally blew the whistle), all the media is well aware Rudy flubbed EVERYTHING on 9/11 but won't report it.
And PLEASE stop with the nonsense about 9/11 being a surprise. I and many others said a jet crash was the most obvious way for the terrorists (or CIA) to strike with again. (And we ALL know Rudy knew they would be returning to bomb the WTC b/c the terrorists PROMISED!)
Stop giving this murderer a free pass please.
