Remy Ma is Free Til November

2007_08_remyma.jpgLast month Remy Ma, after a night out at Pizza Bar in the Meatpacking District, shot her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph. Oops. The 23-year old survived the rapper's wrath, and Remy Ma went to Riker's. The altercation began after Barnes-Joseph was believed to have stolen $3,000 from Remy Ma, something that is still unconfirmed. According to the victim, instead of calling 911 after the shooting, Remy went through her purse while she bled from two shots to the stomach.

The Daily News reports that the rapper made her way to court yesterday to face charges in attempted murder, assault and weapons possession. The Manhattan Criminal Court proved to be little more than a field trip for her though, as she learned that no grand jury has heard her case yet. This means she is still free on $250,000 bail until her next court date, which is set for November 29th.

In the meantime Remy's lawyer, Ivan Fisher, is saying that "no view of the events that has surfaced publicly is accurate." His client has no problem trying to clear her own name with spontaneous declarations to reporters, a day before her court appearance she was screaming out a window in her New Jersey home: "I didn't shoot my friend! I didn't shoot nobody!" As for Barnes-Joseph, she's unable to work but currently at home recuperating.

Illegal gun.
3–5 years in prison.
No exceptions.

Who?

She won't serve any time. Remember no snitching.

i can't stand how these p-o-s rappers get all dressed up for court... as if they're upstanding members of society who, due to some unfortunate misunderstanding, somehow managed to find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

JMH: exactly.

And she has to have one of the worst name in hip hop. Remy Ma?! "Oh, I think I'll take the name of the cognac that everyone so blindly drinks and remove the last 4 letters of the second word. Viola! My name." Stupid idiot.

I like her last name.

What'd ya expect her to do? The byatch stole her money! Ya can't expect any self-respecting rapper thug chick to not do anything like a punk?!

I would like to go out with a fierce-looking thug chick like that for a change - I'm tired of the sycophantic little Asian girls I've been seeing lately..

I'd make a run for Rio in the meantime - isn't she looking at at least 10 years?

ie unless the victim refuses to testify for some reason...?

ghetto is as ghetto does

I agree schadenfreudian mensch, stop snitchin'! Her justice will be on the streets!

Don't take your guns to town Ma, leave your guns at home.

Her real name is Reminisce so it makes sense that her stage name is Remy Ma.
I think shes innocent and this so called "friend" just looking for $$$ off her. There has been allegations that she has stole from Remy before.
Remy Ma Queen of NY Innocent

Who the fuck names their kid "Reminisce"?

A drug addict which her mom was. She was a straight A student and made it out the ghetto i dont think she would just shoot someone and ruin the rest of her and her son and daughters lives.

JMH: A fan of Mary J. Blige perhaps?
dada dada dup da dup da dup...

I stand corrected #14, but I still think she has a stupid name...(both given and stage).

This is a classic example of Dave Chappelle's "When Keepin' It Real Goes Wrong". So did she get the $3k back?

Even if she got the $3k back, she'll be looking at the very least $10k on lawyer fees (doesn't include bail) whether or not she gets off the hook. So not very much critical thinking involved when she pointed the 9mm, but at least she's getting street creds. That counts for somethin' doesn't it?

Real street cred isn't selling as many CDs for well established rappers as it use to. This is going to help an unknow, a nobody?

I don't think she did but most people believe she did. I just think right now she should notice who her friends are?
