Congressman Doesn't Back Wife in Council Race

2007_08_draggroom.jpgUsually married people, when not fighting, are pretty supportive their spouses, but that's not the case with Congressman Gregory Meeks and his wife Simone-Marie Meeks. Rep. Meeks is backing his congressional aide, Brian Simon, instead of his wife for the City Council seat being vacated by Leroy Comrie because of term limits. The seat for the 27th District represents parts of southeast Queens and Comrie started the movement to ban the N-word and was threatened by Viola Plummer.

Mrs. Meeks, who is an aide to Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, is not discouraged, telling the Daily News:

"I still don't know if my husband is supporting me or not, but it doesn't matter to me. We have disagreed before and this is just another disagreement. I am past the anger now. I was amazed and angry, angry, angry initially, but I am over it. I have been his partner in good times and bad times and I am sure he loves me. I know our marriage will survive even if he doesn't support me."
That's certainly going to make for some interesting dinner table conversations.

Simone-Marie Meeks has reportedly been interested in politics since childhood and has already started a committee to start raising money. We wonder if Congressman Meeks will share his contact list with his wife or let Simon speak negatively about her during the campaign.

Congressman Meeks needs to go!! How could he do this to his wife? What a schmuck!! Love or no love, honey he does NOT have your back!! You need to cut this man loose!! Family is very important!!

#1 You're wrong. Its great that some politicians don't support people just because they're family, but instead because the person is right for the job.

D-I-V-O-R-C-E!

yeah, okay #2, but if that's the way it is, they should not be married.

Sounds like my marriage.

Hmmm, this is reminiscent of a certain failed presidential candidate who's wife publically avowed she would not campaign with him and would not move to the white house or give up her small family medical practice if her husband won. Her career was first to her but best of luck to him! At least she endorsed him, but a divided front never leads to victory....

congressman meeks also announced that his vow of celibacy starts tonight.

Mrs. Meeks, who is an aide to Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, is not discouraged,

Am I supposed to be encouraged that someone working for Nassau County right now wants to be on the NYC City Council?

I agree with #9.

#8, that was hilarious.

[7] because what may make a good politician does not make for a good spouse/life partner. She deserves his support and respect as her husband.

Simone is power hungry and using the media as an emotionally bully to strong arm her husband. They'll be reporting from the mental institution when she loses the campaign and her husband....

Why should a young man (Brian simon), who was born and raised in this community not given the opportunity to serve? How many young African Americans have this opportunity? Does she need a title to be of public service?

why did she (Simone) not share with the media that she recently moved to the community............She is a rude disrespectful woman, with obvious emotional challenges!

Lol, The Bed they share must have a divider down the middle . Because Mr. Meeks ain't getting no pussy tonite ! Posted by; "Still Not Amused"

Hey Still not amused......don't think Mr. Meeks wants it....haha! therein lies the problem....she's scorned and rejected. So how do you get even.........go to the media. You are seeing things from the outside...........maybe you can go for it....
