An elderly couple filed suit against their landlord last month after he refused to let them move into the first floor apartment in their West Village building that they had already spent thousands of dollars renovating. To add insult to injury, Frank and Elissa Cella are part owners of the property, and the building manager who won't let them move in happens to be their own son.
Frank Cella has diabetes, has undergone 12 vascular surgeries in the past year and eventually had three toes amputated. He and his wife have lived at 45 Morton St. for four decades and were renovating the first floor apartment to spare him the walks up and down four flights of stairs that he now must endure to enter and exit his home. After several months and tens of thousands of dollars spent renovating the apartment, however, their son John Cella told his parents that they could not move, forcing his parents to sue him. "We've come to the conclusion that we have no other option," 70-year-old Frank Cella told the New York Post.
The West Village building was purchased by Elissa Cella's grandfather and the elderly couple are now part owners. Their son also owns a portion of the property and is the building manager. The Post doesn't specify why he's refusing to let his parents move into the first floor apartment. The elder Cellas are suing to be allowed to finish the apartment renovations and to move downstairs, or are asking for $150,000 in compensation. Sigh, real estate totally tears families apart.

The immediate assumption is that the son realized the renovated apartment is worth a great amount of money in rent, but it does seem ridiculous that he's locking out his own parents - who did all the work - with apparently no reason given.
This story is sad and crazy - I hope the Post follows up with information about why the son is refusing the first floor to them.
I'm not having kids.
somehow beating your kid don't sound that bad to me now.
WORST. SON. EVER.
Let's hope this family feud doesn't end with someone blowing up the building like that crazy doctor did last year.
It seems weird that the Post didn't obtain a comment from the son. In fact, it doesn't even seem like they tried to get one.
WORST. SON. EVER.
PLAYED. OUT. STYLE.
God, when will it end.
#6:
that's weird to you? i guess you've mistaken the post for something close to a 'newspaper'.
There is definitely a special place in hell reserved for that guy.
GOD. WHEN. WILL. IT. END.
are they jewish?
That's really messed up. I hope the judge rules in favor of the elderly couple.
The parents should donate their share of the building to a charity. Screw the son. Shame on him for what he is doing. Greed makes monsters of us all. So sad!
I think there has to be more to the story than we're hearing. Maybe the son is that much of an ogre, but it seems to me that most of these "That's outrageous!" sort of headlines turn out to be nowhere near as terrible as the initial write-up makes them sound.
perhaps he and the nekkid front stoop beater offer from Bank St....who with any luck will got back into the ever (not vigilant) CT prison system this week ...could both be set upon by a gang of sex workers from the WV and have the living effing daylight beaten out of them.....vigilante justice is the only way with these freaks
Is this dork an only child? And if so it is typical of those selfish brats to think only of themselves. Having coached several pieces of crap like this guy in sports in their fromative years I can't stand them and what they think is their special position in life. They should be aborted at birth, and if not at that time, when they turn sixteeen years of age.
I hope they move out, sue the shit, win, and shortly after the settlement the building burns down before he renews his insurance policy.
