With Flooded Subway, Mayor Gives Glavine Key to City

2007_08_glavinebloomberg.jpgLast Sunday, Mets pitcher Tom Glavine finally won his 300th career game with a victory over the Chicago Cubs. To honor Glavine, Mayor Bloomberg presented the 41-year old lefty the Key to the City on Wednesday. This was enough to upset at least one New Yorker.

The Politicker noted that a caller to the Mayor's radio show today suggested that Bloomberg should have rescheduled with Glavine considering the city's subway system was deluged by early morning rain. The caller asked, “Who would want the key to the city that day?" and Bloomberg responded, “Maybe you’re a Yankee fan." Bloomberg also said that he was paying attention to the subway issue and visited affected areas of the city before the ceremony.

Wednesday is probably a day where Bloomberg didn't opt for a ride to the subway, but took his SUVs all the way to City Hall. It was also the 2nd time in 8 days that Bloomberg awkwardly donned the baseball cap of a local team.

And what would Bloomberg have done? Operate the pumps?

Must be a slow news day for you to post this!

Quit it with the SUV rides. This is like the third time you guys have linked to that. We get it.

1 - he should have been making sure the MTA was providing instruction to the people, he should have been directing the NYPD to get off its ass and get down into the station. He should be appologizing to the city for poor planning on both his part and the MTA management. Especially considering he wants to basically force even more people down there.

MTA is essentially a state agency. Most of the board members are nominated by the governor. All of the board members are confirmed by the state senate. What does Bloomberg have to do with MTA again?????

God forbid he should multi-task! You realize he has staff members that he delegates responsibilities to, right?

If a manager of McDonald's went around making sure that every part of your order was done, instead of trusting the guy in the back to put the hamburger together, you would never get your food.
