Today's Commute: Most Subway Lines Working

2007_08_up10.jpg

Thankfully, there was no rain last night or this morning, meaning that today's commute will be better than yesterday's (we hope). The riders of the E, F, and R will have to put up with delays and diversions, but at least there is service. The MTA's latest service alert for subways and buses says:

Posted on:8/9/2007 7:23:08 AM

Due to yesterday's flooding, this is the current status of subway operations:

E and F trains are running local in both directions.

E, F and R trains are running with extensive delays.

Customers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on the E, F and R trains at this time.

How was your commute?

I don't see how this city and the MTA can't get their act together in 24 hours. Come on now, we're supposed to be the capital of the world, not the joke of the world.

I waited a half an hour for the E last night at 53d/Lex so I could get to Penn Station to start the *rest* of my commute home, but no train ever showed up going in either direction.

I wouldn't have minded half as much if there hadn't been an announcement replayed every 3-4 minutes, announcing that after an "earlier incident, E and F trains have now resumed normal service."

I normally take the V, but was worried about the Delay and took the 7 to the 6 instead, only taking me like 5 mins longer than normal. Someone I work with lives in Jackson Heights siad she got on the E, V, or F (dont' remember which) and she sat int he station for 15 mins. (Of course this sometimes happens anyday)

#14 That is crazy! What an awful cab driver. I would have refused to pay the extra 5. Dropped him exact change no tip and gotten out of the ca. What's he going to do, tell a cop and prove he's breaking the law. I probably would have taken a picture on my phone and gotten his name and called the Taxi and Limo Comission.

Normal crowds on the bus this morning as opposed to yesterday's overstuffed madness.

    re: post 19

Oops, I meant post #5. Also the A train was totally crawling through the tunnel this morning from Jay street on and the C at 42nd was like a cattle car.

@4: There's no express F service in Brooklyn, just Queens.

2/3 running quickly, just missed a train at 8:20 or so and within 60 seconds another showed up, usual 30 minute commute to work.

The 4 was running slow this morning into the Bronx.

the f train was slow but the A train (and non existent C train) made my commute approx. 2 hours, usually its 40 minutes.

5 and 9, the F runs local in Brooklyn and express in Queens. In Brooklyn there are express tracks for it, currently sitting idle. http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/30/25/30_25expressf.html

F in Brooklyn was overcrowded and delayed. So, basically, everything's back to normal.

The N was working, I picked it up at the Astoria Blvd stop around 7:50am today. Much better than yesterday's morning commute, which totalled 3 hours and 10 minutes, and consisted of a walking, a bus, another bus, the Roosevelt Island tram and then a 24 block walk.

Had dinner and a movie last night and took a cab back. I wasn't about to go anywhere near the subway.

The cabbie in the first cab I got had a sign that said each passenger was to pay $5 in addition to the meter. We got in an argument with him, because that is illegal to do, and got another cab.

    What an f'in day.

i take the r from queens, and i had no problem this morning...

I just rode the E train to work, no delays.

F train was fine yesterday evening, and this morning it's backed up and crowded again, dunno what gives.

  • guest

Took a V train this morning instead of the usual F train from 74th Roosevelt to 34th Street. Despite the "extensive delays" as described by the MTA, the ride took no longer than the usual 25 minutes. I think it was a psychological ploy to get us to fear the worst then think, "Hey, that wasn't all that bad."

    Either way, it worked.

re #5 its the 6th Ave local by definition. Even in brooklyn and queens, its local.

I just got to work in Dumbo via the R train from Bay Ridge Ave. and the F from 9th St. No problems.

The PATH train was back in action by 11am yesterday morning.

    Jersey did something right.

Back to my normal 25-30 minutes, from 3 hours yesterday.
