THEATER: Violist-turned-playwright Michael Hollinger has written a well-received new play called, fittingly, Opus. His taut drama concerns the back-biting, sex, drugs and excess for which string quartets are so notorious. When a lovely young violist wins the open spot on the renowned Lazara Quartet, she unwittingly steps into the turmoil wrought by the disappearance of the man she’s replacing – a drug-addicted former lover of the first violinist! Writing on behalf of The Central Arbiter, Charles Isherwood calls it “an absorbing new play”, “engrossing” and “juicy”. - John Del Signore
8pm // 59E59 Theaters [59 East 59th St] // Tickets cost $60.
