Last Night's Action: Toronto Tantrums

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg

  • Yankees 9 Blue Jays 2: Tempers flared in Toronto as the Blue Jays decided to retaliate for a second day against Alex Rodriguez for his infamous “HA!”. Josh Towers plunked Alex and the benches emptied twice before play resumed. Things cruised along from there until Robinson Cano got hit, although it looked unintentional, in the seventh. But, that was enough for Roger Clemens who started the bottom of the seventh with a fastball away before depositing his second pitch squarely into Alex Rios’s back. Clemens and Torre were ejected since both benches had been warned, but the message was sent- don’t mess with A-Rod.

Oh yes, the Yankees won thanks to 4 RBI’s from Abreu, some nice pitching from Clemens and a great debut by Joba Chamberlain.

  • Atlanta 7 Mets 3: Oliver Perez didn’t have it and the Mets didn’t stand a chance. Atlanta jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three innings while Chipper Jones and Jeff Francoeur went 7-for-10. With the win, the Braves cut the Mets’ lead in the NL East to 3-1/2 games.
  • Liberty 77 Houston 71: Loree Moore and Janel McCarville had 17 points each in the win.
  • Staten Island 2 Williamsport 0 (Suspended in the third inning) Justin Snyder was 2-for-2 before the rains came. The game will be resumed tonight at 6:05.
  • Brooklyn-Mahoning Valley (Rained Out): The teams will play a doubleheader today starting at 6pm.

Ah yes. It's great to see our sportsplayers are such great keepers of sportsmanship. Was there ever any doubt?

You know Clemens has lost it a bit when teams go after A-Rod with full knowledge that Clemens is going to go after them with a fastball to the back. You wouldn't do that with 1990's Clemens unless you wanted to end up in the emergency room with a couple of broken ribs.

I guess there were no broken bats laying around from Clemens to throw at someone

user-pic

Bunch of cry baby canucks.

user-pic

I'd hardly call them cry babies. Cry babies whine to the umpire. Anyway, better get your tickets to the Stadium to watch A-Rod all you can between now and October because he's gone after the season. You'll have to watch him on Sportscenter when he signs with Anaheim.

Because everyone on the Blue Jays is from Canada....

A-Rod is going to Anaheim or S.F...

user-pic

They represent Canada, so they're all canucks.

Why would you ever possibly except Clemens to behave with even a semblance of class or sportsmanship? The guy has been a hardcore asshole for years.

Rodriguez isn't going anywhere, except maybe the Canyon of Heroes.

And the Jays, as a squad, can go to hell. They didn't retaliate when the should have, and now they're worried they'll look like schmucks. Well, mission accomplished.

TimN..

Please, please come toward the light, and release yourself from the evil empire in pinstripes. You just may save your soul

My soul is fine, thank you. I've been rooting for the Bombers since 1971, they were, are, and will ever be the class of all pro sports.

user-pic

fair enough, but if you ever decide to dump the bombers you will be welcomed with open arms buy your friends in Flushing

may the force be with you

That's cool of you, friend, but somehow I doubt that. :>)
