- Yankees 8, White Sox 1: Jorge Posada predicted Tuesday after the Yankees went deep eight times that Alex Rodriguez would hit two homers Wednesday. Rodriguez didn't come through -- he went 0-for-4 -- but Posada did. The underappreciated Yankees catcher hit two of five Yankees blasts as the Yankees won their third straight game. Rodriguez, on the other hand, can't seem to join the party. He's gone 0 for his last 21 to tie the longest hitless streak of his career. At least that's not affecting the Yankees, who, with the Indians' loss, sit two games out of the wild card.
- Mets 8, Brewers 5: Ramon Castro takes no prisoners. His three-run homer in the third put the Mets ahead to stay. After last night's heartbreaker, the Mets must have enjoyed watching Oliver Perez strike out 11 batters in six innings. They probably don't want to see an outfield of alignment of Moises Alou, Marlon Anderson and Shawn Green that often. Brian Lawrence will start the finale Thursday. He hasn't been in the Major Leagues since 2005, when he was with the Padres.
- Lowell 2, Brooklyn 0: These teams played like they had dinner reservations. The Spinners enjoyed them more thanks to their stronger effort in the pitchers' duel. Brooklyn only got four hits.

wow the yankees beat the worst team in the american league. get the champagne.
Jorge is like the most loved dude on the Yankees.
matty, the mets, who beat up on the worst teams in that shitty division with a healthy lineup built up a huge lead, are soon going to be fighting it out for the wild card - while the yankees who play in the toughest division in the league, who played the top teams with mulitple injuries, and sunk to 14 back, are now in line to take the division from boston. i think shea is burning dude!
Having two good teams and a pile of crap doesn't make the AL East the toughest division in the league.
The worst team in the American League? You mean the NL wild card?
The ChiSox are a) not the worst team in the AL, only a moron would say that, simply look a the standings, there are plenty worse, and b) the ChiSox despite being dreadful this year, would still be better than the vast majority of NL teams if they played in that AAAA league that somehow claims to be part of the majors.
I meant standings wise. I am a huge WSox fan - I just don't want Yankee fans to get all uppity.
It's amazing that every team the Yankees beat is the "worst in the league". Doesn't quite seem possible, but oh well...if ppl say it, it must be true.
