- Ed Schoenfeld, dubbed "the curator of Chinese food in America" by Gourmet, tells Leonard Lopate how to order properly in a Chinese restaurant (how'd we do, Ed?) The episode aired at noon today on WNYC, so the podcast should be available shortly.
- Slate gives us a video slideshow of how chefs and cooking are portrayed in film, including Ratatouille, Big Night, and Mostly Martha.
- Best pasta to beat the heat -- the classic combo of fresh tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella, with barely any cooking from this week's Times magazine screams summer.
- Serious Eats lets us know that the next season of Top Chef is set in Chi-town.
- Looking for the best grandma (nonna) slice in Manhattan? Slice gives the thumbs-up to Vinci's, on First Avenue between 61st and 62nd. Might be worth a lunchtime exploratory mission.
- Ever wanted to learn to deglaze a pan? Let Landmarc/Ditch Plains' Marc Murphy show you how on RealMealsTV.

I just watched that Slate slideshow and must say that Waiting... is one of the most unwatchable films ever. Never see a movie with Dane Cook, Ryan Reynolds, David Koechner, and Justin Long in it, though if you want to go on a diet, maybe it's good for that.
Vinci's pizza is not that great at all. It would be one of my last choices- Especially for calzones!!! And it's not that clean looking. Why would you get pizza NOT made by Italians?!?!?!?
#2:
Aside from a precious few pizza joints, how many actual Italians do you really think are making the pizzas in NYC? Every pizza kitchen I see (and I'm not talking about run-of-the-mill slice joints) has Latin cooks.
Isn't most pizza made in NYC made by non-Italians?
Dammit, when you said "Chi-town", I hoped next season's Top Chef was set down on Canal Street. Quickfire Challenge - make an amuse bouche using frogs out of this plastic bin.
How could the best grandma's slice be anywhere but Bay Ridge, the home of the grandma's slice. Heck, Bay Ridge even has a Grandma's Pizza.
I don't know, Jen..."Waiting" is probably the most honest depiction of what it's like to work for an Applebee's.
And this is coming from a guy who worked at two different Applebee's upstate. Frighteningly spot-on...save for the games played with balls.
