The Rolling Stones Hit the BIG Screen

Last year the Rolling Stones played two nights at the Beacon Theater (partly to celebrate Bill Clinton's 60th birthday - we guess Hillary will get Celine). It's just been announced that this September 21st Martin Scorsese will release a documentary filmed at the shows. The larger than life event will become just that in celluloid as it gets the IMAX treatment, but is the world ready for a 50-foot Mick Jagger? Well, it's not the first time it's happened.

The late Ahmet Ertegun was also at this show, suffering a brain injury that eventually killed him after falling backstage. This will likely be the last footage of him in a healthy state.

The film will be called Shine A Light (after an old Stones gospel song). Scorsese's past rock doc's include No Direction Home and The Last Waltz.

Seeing a the stones live today is like seeing Jessica Alba in Playboy 30 years from now. No thanks.

Wow - giving blog coverage to the Stones. Really keen music coverage guys.

Let's see -- if Ertegun was healthy until he slipped and fell at that show, then yes, the footage from that show would be the last to show him healthy, wouldn't it?

What's the name of the movie:

Stop Making Drool?

The Rolling Stones ?

Guys, please hang it up already and go retire to your country estates in Surrey

Actually, Jessica Alba will probably still be pretty good looking 30 years from now.

Not Making Sense?

Too old to rock and roll?
You should be so cool (and athletic and sexy) at 40 much less at 70.

Given the quality of the The Last Waltz I am confident this will be good. Don't worry guys, the Girl Talk DVD will be out any day now

Martin needs to get some new CDs. His bloated 'Last Watlz' & Dylan Documentary, and now this apparent Stones fascination is pretty sad in my opinion. The world of rock really doesn't need another Gush-fest at this point, especially about artists like this that have already recieved WAY too many accolades. To see this on a blog like Gothamist is pretty annoying.

When the Stones hit the airwaves and the fan zines in the mid 60s, they were much more dangerous than the Beatles. Even though I am a huge Beatle fan, I know that the Stones contributed as much if not much more to the atmosphere of questioning authority and outing sex from the closet of the 50's. They were not just marketing icons, they were revolutionaries. So the comments which seem to go no deeper than a Shopping Channel sensibility in terms of cultural awareness are just a sign of these shallow times. The Stones are up there with James Brown and BB King. What rock group can claim that in these difficult times? They deserve a documentary by a master filmmaker like Scorcese. And that's the real dope.
