With the heat that's hitting the city this week, we can understand the desire to walk around with as little clothes as possible. But on Park Avenue between Union Square and 23rd Street (and the surrounding areas), there's one man who seems to walk up and down with his shirt off all the time. The man is over 6 feet tall, disturbingly muscular, and is dubbed He-Man by the locals. Not only does He-Man walk around shirtless, he also has an odd collar around his neck (almost like a bow tie without the tie). He doesn't have a page boy haircut like cartoon He-Man, but he does have a mullet! A website to track his whereabouts even exists. It seems like everytime we're in the area, we see He-Man walking around. Sure enough, just yesterday, we saw He-Man walking around with his buddy on Park Ave around 18th Street.
Apparently when he's got his shirt on, He-Man is a caring being, talking to people in Union Square Park. While the He-Man website may be tongue-in-cheek, the man is real. Whether or not he has the same power as the cartoon He-Man remains to be seen. We certainly don't want to find out though.
From what we've read, there are no sightings of Skeletor.

lol Oh wow!
Last week - early last week I saw this huge guy walking down 5th Ave around 22nd Street - he seemed like he had a purpose but more like he was looking for Venice Beach.
Maybe he is in one of those films - like when they put an overweight woman and a slim woman in situtaions around the city to see how people respond.
Is that him on the right? He doesn't look that big.
I helped create the Find He Man blog. If you see He Man, email us in a sighting. If you have a cell phone, snap a picture! We want YOUR sightings of New York's own superhero.
It's only when we learn more about He Man, can we truly understand his power.
omg, i work in union square and see this dude all the time..and chuckle to myself each time!!! he's the best ever !!
#2, that is him on the right. i think the picture understates his size. i think he's enhanced the same way as barry bonds though.
you've been hanging out with too many bloggers if you consider that dude "disturbingly muscular"
Where is his Sword of Power??? Wheres Cringer the Battle Cat??
He's a fake some chick has the hots for and she decided to make a site devoted to him.
STALKER
I saw him in Madison Square Park a couple weeks ago. Some people were acting like he was a celebrity.
Spotted him a few times the past two weekends on 23rd btwn 3rd and Lex while walking over to the 6train. There's a halfway house right there around the area but he could have just been walking by...
I saw him last week in washington square, but the best part is that he was walking with (and holding hands) with the tiniest girl; she couldn't have been more than 5 feet tall and 100 pounds. it was really a wild scene.
this is amazing. this guy walked past me yesterday on 2nd ave and 11th St. I thought he looked like a romance novel cover model coming off crystal meth.
Slow news day...
Five bucks says this he-man a-hole is the owner & operator of the find he man blog.
... and it's all part of a Burger King promotion. Edgy street marketing!
This guy walked past me and my boyfriend on 8th ave and 50th last week. Swear to God we turned towards each other and asked "Um...was that He-Man?"
you guys realize that he walks around with his shirt off for attention, right? so even though a lot of people seem to be mocking him he is most likely basking in ignorant glory...
You should talk to your Torontoist brethen. We have this guy we call "hobo Santa" (or a variation of that) that fits the description. He wears nothing but jean shorts and a Santa hat, keeps flexing and grunting around downtown (until recently, he got banned apparently).
He has this interesting backstory (flexes and stays fit after being in a coma, wears Santa hat becaus it amuses the daughter he lost custody of) and is seriously amusing.

i've seen that guy at madison square park and he really is a freakin giant, lumbering around with his arms in tough guy mode, shifting his weight like cromagnum. pics and words don't do it justice, someone post some video
Skeletor is currently appearing in the guise of Richard Nixon in Frost Nixon on B'way.
No sign of She-Ra, though....
holy shit.
I see this guy ALL the time.
My co-workers and I eat lunch in the park, and we're constantly in awe of how amazing he is.
One day he was wearing one of those Chip 'n Dale chokers around his neck. Awesome.
And apparently he's been sighted on the PATH train totally wasted and yelling at the top of his lungs.
He's amazing!
This is too funny! I saw him once while waiting in line at Shake Shack. He walked by a couple times and I couldn't help but laugh. And there's a website devoted to his whereabouts! This is too much!!!!
He was strange, he walked around as if he had no real purpose.
Haha, I stood next to this guy on a very bizarre Path ride, He almost fell on me and other innocent bystanders and looked pretty confused and possibly on drugs... I think he looks more like a freakish Matt Dillon with a sweet ass mullet.
From what we've read, there are no sightings of Skeletor.
just go to the lower east side on a weekend, and look at any of the broads walking around. i think you'll see plenty of candidates. oooh RAZZZ!
That is awesome! Seeing him would be even better than a Mary Kate or Ashley sighting!
Seen him in Madison Square Park and he's no FRANK CHIU (12 Galaxies . . .)
This is as funny as the Upper East Side/2nd Avenue cross-dressing jogger.
What about Man at Arms?
yanni
hahaaha yeah, I saw him wandering around Madison Square Park in June a bunch of times. He walked like he owned the place.
shirt off, of course.
Haha- saw him this morning, Avenue A between 3 & 4. He is huge.

I see this guy around Madison Square Park...but my co-workers and I have always called him Conan...
no way, a weird looking/acting person in nyc?!
great scoop, gothamist.
I love this guy. Have you seen his oiled-up buddy with the bicycle? The two together are a super-duo.
Oh my god I've seen the Upper East Side cross Dressing jogger. What a package he's packing!
i saw him to. i was walking down 5th towards 14th st., and i saw him around 23 st. i must admit, he could single handly pick me and my bf up and carry us home-he is that big.
