The next name up on Jose Canseco's mudslinging list is none other than Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. In an interview Friday with Boston radio station WEEI, the former Oakland A's slugger and former Yankee said that he had the "other stuff on Alex Rodriguez," and that he plans on laying out the details in a book he's shopping to publishers now. When the radio-host asked if A-Rod was on steroids, Canseco said "Wait and see."
Robert O. Saunooke, Canseco's lawyer, said that he's already met with MLB's steroids investigator George Mitchell and told him "what players, managers and owners knew and all the ins and outs of drug use and procedures." Saunooke also said, "Jose has information about A-Rod and the Yankees that will be in the book. But, I am not sure if Jose is willing to disclose it at this point."
Canseco admitted to using steroids in his 2005 "tell-all" book Juiced. In the book, Canseco claimed that 85% of Major League players took steroids and specifically named several former and current players that he played with (Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Rafael Palmeiro, Iván Rodríguez, and Juan González).
When asked if he heard Canseco's comments, Rodriguez said, "Nope. I haven’t, and I have no comment."

What's wrong with steroids? I regularly use Dekka to maintain my physique. Do you really think a 38 year old man can have the chiseled, muscular body I have (4.3% bodyfat) and the abs I have going natural?
I cycle conservatively, and it's been a Godsend.
Why does anyone really care? These are all adults making informed decisions about how to treat their bodies. How does this affect anyone? The idea that athletes are role models for the kids and that kids will run out and replicate all of their behavior is farsical and insulting. If your child is so shallow as to be influenced into behavior you (the parent) do not approve of by a professional athlete, that is rightly an issue of personal responsibility for you and your child. A free society does not prohibit behavior to those of us over the age of majority just because someone else's minor might think it would be cool thing to try. Babe Ruth drank whisky and ate too many hot-dogs, Ty Cobb was a racist ass, Darryl Strawberry likes to ski. If your child is emulating behavior you don't like, then sit them down and PARENT them.
I find it's much easier to enjoy professional sports if you just assume everyone's cheating, and thus the playing field remains level. It's not like the hitters are juicing and the pitchers aren't ... you think Clemens is still playing due to natural athleticism?
I wouldn't be shocked it came out that Bud Selig was behind the whole steroids thing given how much he hates baseball except to make money.
a-rod does not fit the stereotypical profile of a juicer. he's a big guy, but i think that's about it.
Batters are generally helped more by steroids than pitchers. Steroids will not help your curve ball or off-speed pitch and brute strength does not necessarily even help throw a faster fastball. What they mainly do for pitchers is lets them pitch longer.
If you're a hitter though and you already have good hand-eye coordination, brute strength will turn fly balls into home runs. You'll note that batting averages are not at historic highs, home runs and slugging averages are.
As for why people care, it's because baseball has a great sense of its own history, and steroid users are seen as having an advantage that players of previous eras did not have. There are alot of other arguments that can be made regarding varying conditions in different eras, however (smaller ballparks in the old days, lively ball era in the '20s and '30s, etc etc etc).
shut up Jose. just shut up and go away.
canseco has been great for baseball
now all the juicers like mcgwire, bonds, palmiero, etc will get the scorn they deserve
what amazes me most is the stupidity of the average baseball fan. i mean this was going on long before it became a "known" issue and people just kept watching like the dopes they are and shelling out stupid amounts of hard earned money for over-priced tickets and concessions and cable tv to watch the games which used to be free on tv to watch and now the dopey fans pay to watch tv with ads. the fans get what they deserve! with lack of real revenue-sharing and salary caps on team spending and steroids it's amazing that people still take baseball seriously. it goes to show you how dumb and complacent americans are.
f*ck you #9!!
go back to russia!!
america is the greatest country on earth!!
freedom isn't free!!
god bless baseball
god bless george w bush
god bless america
9-11-01 we ahall never forget
whether #10 is a joke or not... (but there are people who actually think like #10)
this sounds like the typical pea-brain sports fan and he completey proves my point. thank you #10! while you're struggling/breaking your back to earn a living, there are grown men getting paid millions of dollars for hitting a little white ball around with a stick, you dumbass!
(and what does 9/11 have to do this jerk?)
i think (i hope) #10 is being sarcastic
I don't believe that A. Rod (or Clemens for that matter) doped. I have to admit though, something in me WANTS to believe that they did. Clean or no, A-Rod is a tool - perhaps the best player out there - but still a T-O-O-L.
it may be just a stick hitting a little white ball, but boy is it fun to watch.
Just because some of the commenters were never good at sports doesn't mean that they are somehow above us "idiotic sports fans." Give me a break. There are plenty of intelligent sports fans out there.
why does everyone care? I would say it's the 250 million dollars Alex Rodriguez is making. If combining natural talent with synthetic chemicals = a fortune wouldn't people who have natural talent but without the chemicals and are overlooked for power hitters feel cheated? it's fucking cheating. Why watch baseball if the metahuman feats aren't from hard work but hard work and something extra? I could be playing video games that show baseball players do even more incredible things. the integrity is questioned. Sure you can say everybody cheats but then you can stick your head in the sand. at the end of the day it's just emptiness.
Who cares as long as the yankees can put together the 35 million a year x 4 years they're gonna resign him for.
and yes we must NEVER forget 9-11. Or July 19th (STEAM=FREEDOM!)
