What better way to brighten up a Monday morning than with Björk tickets? The Icelandic singer is back, and playing Madison Square Garden on September 24th. Tickets are on sale here, but we have two pairs to give away!
Last time she was in town she played Radio City Music Hall, the United Palace Theater and the Apollo Theater - so the MSG show may seem a bit impersonal compared to those. However, her voice, vibe and joie de vivre will help make the large arena seem more intimate (and we're sure no matter where you sit, you'll be able to see her elaborate and colorful outfits).
To win a pair of tickets, leave a comment simply telling us why you'd like to see Björk's show.
Only registered commenters will be eligible for the contest. You can register here, it's free and only takes a few seconds. We will contact the winners via email later this week.
UPDATE: CONTEST CLOSED!

i want to see bjork because it'll be like to an opera for hipster kids.
Because she's probably the most imaginative artist in the mainstream, and has been for about 15 years!
i'd like to see bjork cause i've never seen her live
I have been a Bjork fan for more than a decade and have never successful made it into her shows. If given the opportunity I would mouth along with every word(singing might annoy other concert goers) and perhaps even tear up during certain songs.
Also I'm really exited to see one of these things.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h-RhyopUmc
i want to see bjork because she haunts my dreams.
It's björk, djörk! why wouldn't I want to go!
whoops, not logged in.
i want to see bjork because she haunts my dreams.
Where are the tickets? I wouldn't want to waste my wit for seats that are too far away, right?!?
I'd like to see Bjork because I'm on parole.
i want to see bjork because the last time i saw her my seat was so torturously bad i spent the entire show unable to see a thing except the ding-dongs in front of me who kept spilling their plastic cups of cheap white wine on me while doing what i think was supposed to be a synchronized middle-aged-white-person's dance but looked more like what i imagine two people's bodies would look like after they've both chugged half of a bottle of industrial strength carpet cleaner. please let me see bjork this time so that this time i can actually see bjork.
I need to see Bjork because I sat next to her at an Italian restaurant in Little Italy years ago and my ex-girlfriend stupidly told our waiter she was famous. The waiter proceeded to disturb Bjork and her family's lunch with silly photo-ops and autograph requests. I broke up with my girlfriend a week later, and now I owe Bjork some love. Plus I go back to gling-glo as a fan!
I want to see what animal she's wearing (and it's on my bday!)!
Bjork is hott.
I want to see Bjork because when she bounces around on her little stocking feet she reminds me of my cat.
I need to see her because maybe she will bring that great Icelandic Omega-3 oil so I can continue to eat at all the great places in the blog without worrying about heart repercussions!
I would like to see Bjork because she's a damn freak, and I would love to be able to forgive her for participating in Drawing Restrain 9. A fantastic live show may help redeem her in my own mind. And I just moved to NY in June - this would be a lovely belated welcome!
i want 2 c bjork because i own all of her cds!
To be in the same room as her incridible voice just once would be enough to die peacefully.
I've never seen Bjork and couldn't even listen to her for a long time because she reminded me of a person from my past who is no longer around. A few weeks ago someone put on Joga and I just wanted to cry. It felt like closure. Making up for lost time, would be nice to see her perform. Thank you.
i would like the tickets because i simply can not afford the price. i've just moved to new york and i need a date badly. this would be perfect. ahh come on...please
Because I saw her walking on Houston Street with John Hodgeman (the PC guy from the Mac commercials) when she was in town for her SNL performance.
Because it might fun?
I would love to see Bjork at MSG because i'm a poor early intervention social work grad student working my ass off for the betterment of New York's children. Does that work for you? Seriously though, I'm really a big fan and i always seems to miss her shows when she's in NYC. She played three times when Volta came out and I missed every single concert because of classes and not having the dough for these big venue shows. I would love to see her this time around.
I really want to go to Iceland, but can't afford it at the moment, so going to see Bjork would be the next best thing!
I would like to see Bjork's show because my life is falling apart and I need something positive to happen. No really, tonight I am having a party called "Life is Tolerable (But I'm Not) Party". Really, it's at Black Betty in Williamsburg (everyone come and bring friends). Please give me tickets, I love Bjork.
Bjork is a beautiful bird
A breath of fresh air
Yearn for consuming her sound
I want to see Bjork because of her crystlalline voice and innocent sexiness.
because I pretty much ignored her for the 90's...
the beginning of 00's...and finally caught on a few years ago
have never seen her in concert and now own all her albums (or is it cds'..or mp3's what is it being called these days)
and i think i need to learn my lesson once and for all the bjork is the best musical artist alive
and what would better way to teach it to me
oops i forgot to log in ...
I really want to go to Iceland, but can't afford it at the moment, so going to see Bjork would be the next best thing!
i want to see bjork in the hopes that the email forward where she talks on the phone with puffy daddy about a collaboration is indicative of how she actually talks.
I would like these tickets because over the past 15 years I have spent a TON of money seeing her in concert, as her tickets were never affordable.
I recently attended the Apollo Show and if I told you what my ticket cost you would vomit. I know i almost did. But it was kick a**!
i know its my own fault for being a bjork fan but I love her!
the end.
ps. and i am also a tori amos fan and her tix are also on sale $$$$$. pity me all around.
I'd like to see her because it'll be amazing with the Klaxons opening.
beebles (11:11:21 AM): I want to see Bjork because of her crystlalline voice and innocent sexiness.
Ninja000000 (11:12:31 AM): NO
Ninja000000 (11:12:35 AM): you cannot put that
beebles (11:11:36 AM): No!!! Someone DID.
Ninja000000 (11:12:42 AM): Oh.
beebles (11:11:38 AM): GOD
Ninja000000 (11:12:43 AM): LSDJGa;oegji:LKJSDG;lk.gds
beebles (11:11:40 AM): GOD
Ninja000000 (11:12:47 AM): i thought that was YOURS
beebles (11:11:43 AM): GODDDDDDDDDDDD
beebles (11:11:47 AM): HOW DARE YOU
Ninja000000 (11:12:55 AM): ;daslkjgeAPOIGJ:lksd>gj;OAJG;LSAD.GKJ
beebles (11:11:54 AM): HOW FUCKING DARE YOU
Ninja000000 (11:12:59 AM): I THOUGHT YOU WERE GETTING DESPERATE
Ninja000000 (11:13:03 AM): I didn't know!
Because I killed a swan, gutted it, fashioned it into a tuxedo, and have nowhere to where it.
To impress a boy, duh.
Cos I want to see my lady smile more.
I want to see Bjork so that I can hold up a poster of Julie Kaufman.. and then duck.
Because it will make my girlfriend love me more.
I would love the tickets not only because I got food poisoning and missed her at Coachella, but also because oddly enough, my (otherwise fairly conservative) mom LOVES Bjork. Mom's birthday on September 20th + Bjork MSG tickets = best gift this side of My Super Sweet 16?
I want 'em just 'cause.
Bjork has been the soundtrack to my life for many, many years. It would be an amazing thrill to see her live and share that experience with my beautiful wife.
i hear she puts on a damn good show. it doesnt get any wittier than that.
I want to see Björk because it was thanks to her that I found out how to use the umlaut function on my keyboard, just this second. I owe her so much that I would like to thank her in person. Also, she is a wonderful artist, so adorable, etc. But the main thing is that now I'll finally be able to type Mötley Crüe without embarrassment.
I want to see Bjork becuase the last time i saw her she played in New Orleans when i was living there before the hurricane. I went with a bunch of friends and we had such a good time. I also saw her in Idaho where i was born becuase her husband is from there and we went to the same school but i want to see her in costume on stage.
I want to see Bjork because what she'll be wearing will probably be as mind-blowing as the show itself!
i want to see Björk sing that duet with antony at the garden...that's the magic!
i would like to see bjork live because i own every album including Gling-Glo (the icelandic jazz cut album). i want to see bjork live because i know she's the one that schooled Timberland on Volta. I want to see Bjork so i can pray she sings Alarm Call so i can scream "I want to go on a mountain-top/With a radio and good batteries/And play a joyous tune and/Free the human race/From suffering" at the top of my lungs. i want to see bjork because i often dream in her lyrical form. and i want to see bjork because even with all that some b.s. always happens causing me to miss her shows and it would be so damn web 2.0 to have my quest for bjork tickets end because of gothamist. so, uh, pick me! pick me!
I want her to have my babies, because their crying will sound like a beautiful icelandic melody.
Plus, I hear she wears sweet outfits.
I like swan necks (or swans on necks).
I've wanted to catch Bjork live since I was 11 years old. The first time I heard her it was unbelievable. The amazing thing about her is not only her music but her visual sense. Her music videos (as well as her music) always break new ground and appeal to such a wide swath of people. Last night I was listening to some of her live music and was thinking about a review I read sometime back. She has never used a guitar in any of her music. A modern, popular musician and she's never used a guitar in any her tracks! If I was able to see her live it would be one of the best experiences in my life.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Bjork is my idol. I've been listening to her since The Sugarcubes, and my one dream is to see her perform. I even got a tattoo years back to resemble hers, though it's not quite the same. My photographer friend Maly's picture of me shows it best (copyrighted image): http://www.flickr.com/photos/malyblomberg/470885292/
When I was in high school, I also painted a picture of her and sent it with a friend who traveled to see her play. He left it in her dressing room.
I want to see Bjork because she taught me not to trust Danish poets.
Who the hell is Bjork?
because she was great in the movie dancer in the dark
because i've been a fan since forever
I want to see Bjork because I just moved here from Tennessee and Bjork has never heard of Tennessee.
My dog LOVES her music and dances around every time I play her CD's! Sadly, Fifi got hit by a car last week. I had my beloved pet for 10 years and though I was able to see her show in the spring, it would mean the world to me to be able to see her again soon with Fifi's spirit by my side. Thanks!
I have a confession: I am not really a true Bjork fan (not yet, at least...) I've enjoyed her music, but haven't followed it religiously. Actually, I have been fancying a great guy for a while that absolutely LOVES her. Getting these tickets would go beyond just impressing him, but would help me understand what is it about her that he loves. I don't believe that taking him to the concert would make him fall for me, but it would be a great date none-the-less.
Help this gay guy dreams come true! Plus, I start grad school in a month (social work anyone?) and could use a break...
because ive heard her shows are a religious experience and i need to be saved!
I would love to see Björk because I love her music and her unique style. Plus I'm unemployed and broke, so this would be a great treat for my girlfriend, who has always stood by me.
She has a lovely singing voice.
I would like to see Björk because her latest album is amazing.
Because...have you heard her new cover of Joni Mitchell's "Boho Dance?" It blows my mind.
BJORK! she is on one of my list of artist to see before i die.
Woo hoo! Bjork! I wanna go!
i want to see björk because 'björk' is how henry miller describes the sound made when someone cannot talk...
She gives me electric shocks! I have been a Bjork fan for so many years and never seen her live! He music has been the soundtrack of my life for years and has traveled with me everywhere I go.
I have yet to see a Bjork show, but I have been loving her since the Sugarcubes.
(I am also excited about her costumes!)
I want to see Bjork because her music is great, she's been at it a long time, and she has exceptional taste in men (I LOVE Matthew Barney).
I admire the irony of Iceland as a country with remarkably little ice.
I also revel in how ironic it is that Bjork denounces all commercial exploits, while continuing to make (remarkably good) pop music.
She is also from Iceland, which makes her cool.
I want to go to MSG and watch her, while eating ice. Perhaps I will also wear a t-shirt proclaiming my love of ice and the lands that are associated with it.
I'm also poor, and it's my birthday that week, so hook a girl up.
Seeing Bjork would be amazing. She is truly unique, fun and awesome. I've never seen her in concert and don't have the duckets to purchase. It would even be more rockin if she performed some songs from her sugercube days.
I've loved Bjork for years and of course I'm dying to see what she wears!
she's soft and fuzzy.... I like soft and fuzzy.
Björk rocks my freakin socks off, but the bank account is a bit too slim for MSG tickets. Pretty please!
In 1998 I missed the bus to go see Bjork and ended up in the time warp known as my Prom. I still think of this wrong turn as one of the biggest regrets in my young life, besides the time that I passed up going to TJ and went to Biology instead. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
because i'm secretly hoping that antony makes a guest appearance. that would just be brilliant.
I want to see bjork because I was too stoned at her United Palace Theater show to really enjoy it.
:)
because i have lived in absence of Bjork for years only recently coming to understand and appreciate the magnificence that is her music. I think i would further come to understand and love her by being able to see a live performance
(was that too kiss ass?... if so who cares i'd like tickets please!)
I want to see bjork because she reminds me of a dream I had one time, tomorrow.
I would love to win tickets to see Bjork, because she is quite strange and beautiful, and I am too much of a poor ass to actually buy tickets. And I'm also interested in this trend of non-stadium acts playing MSG (i.e. White Stripes, etc.)...Can seeing these acts in a gigantor stadium be as good as a smaller venue, hmmmm? Its research, I tell you!
...Because my husband, who is from Egypt, loves Bjork almost more than he loves me, and he would be thrilled if I told him we were going to this concert (especially since we could not get tix for the Radio City show being that it is impossible to get tickets to anything cool and intimate in New York)...
Please pick me to go see BJORK! I am her no. 2 fan, (because there is always someone more obsessed, more in love, more devoted, has more imported CDs, has worn her swan dress for Halloween) but no. 2 is just as important as no. 1.
Pick the underdog, there's not enough people that route for the underdogs and plus I’m a poor, ramen noodle eating, full time working for the non-profits, graduate student paying overpriced school tuition with freelance job on the weekend living in a small dank expensive apartment with no windows and bed bugs.
Don’t make me sell my eggs so that I may see Bjork for probably the last time, since she's getting old and probably wants to move back to Iceland before global warming melts her relatives away. PLEASE, give me this one thing, I never win anything!
She needs to see me so she can whisk me away to her private island and we can take over the world together. I'll be the Yoko she never had. We'll crush goverments with our love. Make art and stop wars. We'll spread positive dreams for the next generation.
I want to see Bjork because I can never afford to see Bjork.
“Well, Björn was ALWAYS one of my favorites; hearing he was playing again nearly 30 years to the day of him reaching #1 was sweet!!
What??
...Oh........Björk!?!
In that case...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
‘Coke-tops on humpbacks with Pearls on my shoulder,
Melted Corn-candy and Clover pull-overs,
Chickens on steroids; post-coital Beast feet,
These are a few of My Favorite Things.’
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got it...Björk...put it on the Board,
CHAMPIONSHIP!”
Ok, so the reason I want the tickets is because my best friend is a Bjork look alike. And with these tickets we'll be able to pull a switcheroo. My friend will take over Bjork's life, and I'll get to be friends with Bjork. Which would be neat.
Here's a photo of my friend:
http://photos-043.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v55/186/105/2502043/n2502043_33209758_8017.jpg
So I may win the heart of the girl I love.
Because I'll be such a good girl for the rest of the year.
Cos i'll stand up and dance. xo
la-la-love Björk, but who can afford MSG? i would even where a "i heart gothamist" shirt to the show... ;)
...as an amazing surprise for my future sister-in-law, who seems to think i don't want her to be part of the family.
I want to see Bjork because she's great great great.
I've known this since I was 12 years old and I bought the sugarcubes tape here today, tomorrow, next week. I loved the song eat the menu. I still love it.
Tuesday is my 30th birthday and I think the greatest present Gothamist could give me is a pair of free tickets to see Bjork. I could relive the feeling of being 12 years old. How great would that be? pretty great, of course.
Thanks in advance, Gothamist, for making my 30th birthday the best one ever, by giving me a pair of tickets to see Bjork. I promise to look really great when I am there, and to come back to visit this site and tell you many good stories from my time at the show.
If you chose not to give me the free tickets for my birthday, I would also appreciate a new blender.
Because I missed the last shows.
Because i've been wanting to watch her perform live since i was like 16yrs old, but it always sells out mega fast plus the tickets are so expensive.
This whole summer's been pretty crummy, stuck at work pretty much all the time. Going to her show would totally redeem my needing to stay in town and work and having to miss everything fun.
I'd like to see Bjork because she makes me happy and want to squish things (squish in a good way)
i work all the time and still have no money, i read gothamist daily and make my co workers do the same so i dont get in trouble for having the internet open. i need to get my girlfriend something for her birthday on wednesday, and quite frankly, i'm broke
and i love you guys. please?
because i want to die happy.
ahem.
Limerick for Bjork & Gothamist:
there once was a singer named Bjork
who went to the Oscars dressed as a stork (well, a swan)
she should be in the loony bin
but I still want to win
to see her at the Garden in New York!
PS: I don't really think she should be in the loony bin. I think she's a brilliant creative unique musician, and I admire her work very much. I was sad to have missed her at Radio City in May - I couldn't afford them, even if I could have gotten them tickets in time.
because i've looked her up in the reykjavik phone book.
Because she changed the way I listened to music. I listen to her and my heart swells.
Because if i won tickets i'd be going for free?
I would like the tickets because I spent the Radio City and Apollo shows listening through the walls. It would be my pleasure not to have to be demeaned by entitled hipsters for one night.
We must go! See, we are the earth intruders, muddy with twigs and branches.
Because I am a black and no one expects me to go! I love her so much!! I must see her live! I wanted to see her in Montreal, but this is EVEN closer because I'm in CONNECTICUT!
i would like to go because i think bjork is from the future
I want to see Bjork because she is my little Icelandic pixie that I keep in a cup called ipod. She has come to me only digitally on discs and through airwaves, alone and with Sugarcubes, and the opportunity to make her into something concrete would be undeniabley amazing.
I want to see if she can top the swan costume
I would not only LIKE to see Bjork, I would KILL to see her. Not literally, of course. I think Bjork is one of the few (if not, the ONLY) truly innovative artists of our time. Her voice speaks to me with such emotional vigor that it brings tears to my eyes. To experience it live would be a gift that I would never forget. I appreciate her music in all senses, I'm a musician myself and it completely baffles me how she comes up with these gorgeous vocal and instrumental scales/compositions. I'd love to see her because she touches me in places no musician has, she has the ability to make me feel cold, warm, scared, excited, and all other emotions just by singing one word. I'd love to see her because I have a passion for art and she is art in form. Bjork creates things unparalleled to anything played on the radio, or even off the radio for that matter. She is the reason my musicial threshold has been built up so much, she is the reason I listen to all the other incredibly talented and creative bands that I do. The first thing I do in the morning is play a Bjork song because she is so incredibly motivating. She gets me up and moving. I bet if you quizzed me on her I'd get all questions right. Well, I may miss a few because I don't keep OVER obsessive tabs on her life, but you get the picture. Bjork is the greatest thing to happen to music. Period. She is a gem and I need to see her before I die.
I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM PAYING FOR A PLANE TICKET, HOTEL, AND ALL OTHER EXPENSES. I WOULD BE ON CLOUD 9 IF I WON THESE TICKETS.
My parents made passionate love to the sounds of Björk and I appeared in their life. (I was an accident!)
because she puts the jörk in Björk!
my wife, lesley, was laid off from her job today. she is a huge björk fan, and if she got a pair of tickets she could go see björk with her best friend kristina. it would really cheer her up.
as a birthday present to compensate for turning 25 :-\..
on the 24th of september i'll have to be a guest in a wedding of my mum's aunt's best friend's cousin, so i think it would be good escaping from them saying "ehi guys, an icelandic girl is waiting me in new york...i have to go"...
b/c she's my favorite icelandic pop princess.
I was supposed to see Bjork with a woman I was dating a few years back, but she backed out at the last minute and gave my ticket to another guy. I was pretty disappointed in that outcome.
I've always wanted to see her live, maybe this is my chance?
because i'm a björk again christian
actually i'm jewish, but 'björk again jew' just doesn't have the same ring to it
free bee-york tickets?
i must write something funny
hope this haiku works
Because I can't think of a better way to spend my 6th anniversary (well, belated) with my boyfriend.
i want the tickets because i can't afford to go on my own, especially since i will have just moved to nyc and i can't think of a better welcoming than a concert by my favorite musician.
How to stand out amongst the crowd of comments? I suppose It all comes down to the lyrics to 'all is full of love' which i have pinned up in my cube. It's a prayer, of sorts...and it gets me through my day
If anyone can animate that dreadful space, she of the swan dress and the sugarcubes can. Like Dylan (the last person I saw there), she's a true artist. I'd love to see it.
Because my friend is going to be a puppeteer for her new video... which is not necessarily a reason to want to see her, but it's less boring than the real reason (I just want to see her).
Honestly from my heart, I have always loved Bjork's music, and I have been saving money to go to NYC just for a weekend, as a surprise to my future husband...when I read about the concert, I knew that it would literally be almost impossible for me to save money and make it happen, and this is my chance!! My boyfriend is a musician, and I believe his whole inspiration revolves around Bjork and her music, she has been his one and only role model; by being unique she has shown him the way to succeed and that anything is possible. Now, we are planning on having a baby, and I am supposed to be pregnant by Sept. 24th, so how about Bjork tickets as a present and the news about the baby to top it off??!!?? That would just make the most wonderful weekend in our lives so far and I know he would never expect it, for we live in an island, Puerto Rico, and we have not had a chance to see Bjork ever live, so this would just be a wonderful experience for both. All I have is all my love to dream about winning this tickets and making this happen for him!! Thanks for the help and the opportunity of winning the tickets, I just hope from the bottom of my heart we get picked, and so I just have to save enough money for the plane tickets, since I have family over in NYC who can offer us place to stay. Hope to GOD I can win this tickets, that would just make my year!!!!
Finally, a Bjork show I can attend! Here's to hoping.
My golly gosh! Can I win? Pleeease? I have been Bjork's fan since 2003 and I would love to see her live!
UGH to everyone who says they want to sing along at the top of their lungs. Go to the show to see your favourite musicians perform! Believe me, no one else wants to pay up the nose to hear you sing. You can sing along at home all you want, let the other people enjoy the show too!
I want to see Bjork so I can seduce Matthew Barney away from her.
who wouldn't?
Who wouldn't want to witness the Icelander melting the ice at MSG!
I need this tickets to help convince my partner of three years that there are things he enjoys in New York. There are many reasons why he (not I) deserve these tickets, but the win-win of the situation is that if I convince you he should have them, I look like the best girlfriend ever. Here are the top three reasons why he should go to this show: A) He grew up in a small town, went to college in a small town, and has never been to a big show. Really. It's about time he experiences that. B) He loves Bjork, and I'm (please don't hate) a little annoyed by her voice. so his Bjork listening is mainly regulated to his iPod. C) He followed me to New York and has stuck by me, through the shit and his desperation to get back to the west coast. For that, free Bjork tickets is really the least I can do.
So sappy, yes, but I'm willing to get sappy if it could help to convince him that he should stay and love New York.
...I think she's the Queen of the eff'n universe...
everything is music
http://youtube.com/watch?v=TGUbtyvXu-Y
she's the awesomeness
GIMME GIMME GIMME
Okay, it is now "later this week". Who won the tickets?
