On the Plate: Upcoming Food and Wine Events
July 28: 2nd Annual QBQ BBQ Burger Bash
It's burger time! This weekend is the second annual Gothamist-Serious Eats/A Hamburger Today QBQ BBQ at Water Taxi Beach. Your votes determined the burgers on the menu: the onion burger, the butter burger (pictured), and the pimento cheese burger. Six Apart will be sponsoring the event with a keg of Orlio and Gothamist/Serious Eats/A Hamburger Today will also be supplying an additional keg of beer. Tickets, which get you three burgers, are $13.50 and are available online. Don't forget to bring ID -- they're serious. There will be a tent covering seating areas for the event, which is rain or shine.
July 28: Second Annual Great Hot Dog Cookoff
You think you've got what it takes to be the top dog? If so, enter your most creative dog into the Second Annual Great Hot Dog Cookoff into one of two categories -- "Classic Dogs," for traditional hot dogs on a bun, or "Twisted Dogs," which can include nearly anything you can dream up, "for hot dogs served in non-traditional ways (off a bun) and for things that are hot-dog-like, but not necessarily dogs." Go nuts. If you just want to show up and eat, that's fine too, and Kelso is donating a keg for the occasion. Tickets are $15 and are available online
July 31: 4-Foodies Tasting Event
If you consider yourself to be a foodie (or a foodist, or whatever we're calling it these days), join other like-minded folks at 5 Ninth for a tasting dinner. Chef Daniel “Chino” Parilla has created a menu including everything from lobster wontons to beer-battered jalapeños, and signature cocktails as well -- the Paloma, a mix of tequila, lime juice, grapefruit soda and a pinch of salt. 5 Ninth Ave between Little W 12th and Gansevoort Streets. 6pm. For more info or reservations, visit 4foodiesusa.com. $50.

Will there be veggie options?

I'm a hard-core carnivore, but that picture makes me want to puke.
that hamburger looks nasty!
hahah. man that does not look good.
Glob of butter aside, that burger looks overcooked.
the hot dog cook-off sounds fun, cheap and for a good cause.
why is Gothamist always talking about hamburgers????
the food pix on gothamist have always been terrible. to see the butter burger in its full splendor, go to seriouseats.com and watch the video. it looks awesomely delicious.
