That cop killing his lover story is starting to get very interesting.
It deserves it's own entry.
Sports teams and sports arenas should not get any government subsidy period, especially if they are used as cover for other forms of development that wouldn't get approved otherwise. My understanding is that Mr. Ratner is not even a basketball fan, which shouldn't be a shock to anyone.
Toby, I tend to agree. I'm from New Orleans where Saints owner Tom Benson has been barbering for a bigger stadium for years even though the Saints played in THE LARGEST STADIUM ON EARTH. Something about the NFL requiring a higher percentage of luxury boxes (than were built into the Superdome) for a Super Bowl bid. While on the plus side a new dome would mean the removal of the Florida and Desire housing projects (whose "residents" are the chief sources of street crime in the French Quarter), Benson still wanted the taxpayers of Louisiana to foot the bill. Our plea as residents was that the Saints should at least make it to the playoffs once in franchise history before we think about a new stadium (since you already play in THE BIGGEST STADIUM ON EARTH!!!) Stupid Katrina came along and damaged the 'Dome badly enough that Benson might get his wish. On a side note FUCK BASKETBALL!!! New Orleans spent MILLIONS on a new ice hockey arena and a great ECHL franchise, then the city persuaded the Charlotte Hormets to relocate and all of a sudden after only 2 years that multi-million dollar hockey arena had all the ice-making equipment torn out (shiny, expensive, ice making equipment) Not because the GAME schedules would conflict, but because the Hornets refused to PRACTICE anywhere but the actual arena and their stupid PRACTICE schedule overlapped the hockey season. Bye bye hockey team, hello over-privliged gangster wannabees.
Also, at only $10.00-$15.00 per ticket for the ECHL games, I can take the family to a hockey game more than once per year without putting us into the poorhouse. You would think with as much television revenue as sports generate they could cut ticket prices so one might be able to take the kids once in a while.
jeremy blake and theresa duncan...sad they found reason to find it necessary (even with his finding her)...few people have talent, and it's just a worse loss due to theirs. at least they had a positive effect while they were here...
Agree with No. 1. That creepy cop story is getting more twisted with each day. Why isn't there more coverage on it?
Read about the stolen check scam the cop had his teenage girlfriend assisting him with, and how she was going to turn him in here.
i agree with you #2.
we live in screwed up society. we spend millions on stadiums for pea-brain athletes when that money should go to other more worthy projects.
but it's the society we live in. why does tiger woods make hundres of millions of dollars in endorsements for hitting a little white ball into a hole with great skill? it's sick!!! it's truly sick! people complain about how they don't make enough money and pay too much taxes blah blah blah..
but they have no problem spending money on expensive sneakers and expensive yankees tickets to support the salaries of these dopey athletes.
So with the Intrepid, God forbid something else happened, I'd bet a huge number of New Yorkers would be running towards that 'mobile command center' which is most likely going to be one of the safest places to be.
#5. Neither of their deaths have been ruled suicides. Medical examiners are still investigating possible foul play.
