MUSIC: If you haven't checked out the Summer of Love exhibit at the Whitney, head over there after work and get a double dose of rock while you're at it. Tonight Dirty Projectors and Lucky Dragons take the stage at Whitney Live. Get there early to get in. Check out this "Take Away Show" in New York featuring the Dirty Projectors.

THEATER: The Soho Think Tank Ice Factory, that highly-acclaimed festival of cool new work by hot young theater companies, proceeds apace this weekend with a play concerning the final days of Rose Mary Woods, loyal secretary to Richard M. Nixon. Presented by “stellar” company New Georges, Stretch: A Fantasia finds Woods watching the presidential election of 2004 from her swing-state nursing home, where she thinks and dreams “about power, loyalty, and lying.” - John Del Signore

POTTER PARTY: Before you get your hands on a copy of the latest, and last, Harry Potter adventure - head to a Potter party! This one is adults-only, where we guess you can get in to the more advanced hidden symbolism and theories...? The party is in the stores new event space called Dungeon (spooky!) and there will be food and drinks. Adult drinks. Once that clock strikes midnight, the book will go on sale...and you'll be in a bookstore! Perfect. You can even call ahead to secure a copy (contact Word at 718.383.0096).

2007_07_arts_gaia.jpgART: It appears we've caught the street art bug from the publisher of this site. After seeing Gaia's work up around town, and on Flickr, we're interested in checking out his show that opens tonight. The exhibit features photography by Rudolfo and street art by Gaia, head over to Dumbo sometime between now and the closing.

Saturday (through August 19th) // Opening reception 5 to 9pm // 57 Pearl Street, Dumbo // Free

THEATER: Cast your vote for uptown theater by turning up for Election Day, a new screwball comedy by Josh Tobiessen that’s part of Second Stage’s Theatre Uptown series. In it, one man named Adam has a devilish time getting to the polls in order to please his politically overbearing girlfriend. But what stands in Adam’s way isn’t mere apathy or Republican voter suppression – it’s his sex-starved sister, an eco-terrorist, and a mayoral candidate willing to do anything for a vote. Hi-jinks ensue. - John Del Signore

Saturday // 2pm // The McGinn/Cazale Theatre [2162 Broadway at 76th St] // Ticket prices vary.

PARTY: Step in to a cabin-like setting at Aspen this Saturday to help celebrate Hunter S. Thompson's birthday. The Fear & Loathing "Gonzo" Party will be a toast to the life of the author, and the space looks like a good one to do that in. Just try to leave the bags of grass, pellets of mescaline, high-powered blotter acid, cocaine, uppers, downers, laughers, screamers and ether at home.

Saturday // 5pm doors, Open Bar 9 to 10pm // Aspen [30 West 22nd St] // Free

2007_07_arts_sirens.jpgEVENT: It's that day of the summer again when the sirens draw you to...Coney Island! Who knows what's going to happen to the fest next year, but this year it's still going strong and includes plenty of artists. Some of our picks: Elvis Perkins, Dr. Dog, MIA. Full lineup here, and it goes on rain or shine! Check out the great artwork this year by Paul Antonson.

Saturday // Noon to 9pm // Coney Island (map) // Free

MUSIC: There's no better way to end the weekend than at Central Park for a free show. This weekend head up there to check out the Brazilian Girls (who create French-inspired electronica, bossa nova rock). What's more: Cat Empire and Himalayas will also be performing. More details here.

Sunday // 3pm // Summerstage // Free

Cheap Beer at Siren Fest? Where on the boardwalk or vicinity can I get the biggest, cheapest to-go beer? I'm talking quantity, not quality here. Thanks.
