Last Night's Action: Balking In The Bronx

  • Yankees 3 Blue Jays 2 (10 innings): This was a wild one. Andy Pettitte and Roy Halliday pitched brilliantly each allowing only one run before turning it over to the bullpens and that’s when things really got interesting.

First up was Kyle Farnsworth, who grows more useless by the day. Farnsworth managed to put the go-ahead run into scoring position with a wild pickoff throw and the Blue Jays ended up taking a 2-1 lead into the ninth.

But, Toronto’s bullpen was more than willing to give the run back. Jeremy Accardo gave up hits to the first two batters, but the Yankees had a runner thrown out at home. Then, Melky Cabrera stole third and Accardo walked Johnny Damon to give the Yankees runners on the corners with one out. Accardo then balked in the tying run, but the Yankees couldn’t get Damon home from second to win. Casey Janssen made sure they did win in the tenth by hitting A-Rod to start the inning and then sending him to second on a wild pitch. After an intentional walk and a strikeout, Robinson Cano ended things with a single to win the game.

  • Mets 7 Padres 0: The Mets got just what they needed last night. They tagged Jake Peavy for three runs over six innings, which was all they really needed. Orlando Hernandez, Pedro Feliciano and Guillermo Mota for a three-hit shutout as the Mets cruised to victory. In seven great innings, Hernandez allowed only two hits, two walks (one was intentional), and helped his own cause with a single, a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored.
  • Brooklyn 5 Williamsport 1:The Cyclones keep winning thanks to nice outings from Nicholas Waechter and William Morgan and Jason Jacobs fourth home run of the year.
  • Staten Island 9 Mahoning Valley 6: The Baby Bombers broke out the lumber with Damon Sublett hitting a grand slam in the second inning.
