THEATER: The Summer Play Festival is at full blaze over at the Theater Row complex on 42nd Street. At $10 a ticket it’s your cheapest way to catch new work by playwrights whose heat index is rising. Tonight you have your pick of four plays; insider theater blogger Surplus recommends Cipher, which concerns two clerks stuck in a secret location monitoring the thoughts of suspected terrorists. “When their assignment gets tough, they begin to ask questions — which is a dangerous thing to do.” - John Del Signore
7pm // Theatre Row [410 West 42nd St] // Tickets cost $10.
MOVIE: The L Magazine is back tonight with another installment in their Summerscreen movie series. This evening's film: Dazed & Confused. Grab a sixer (of something that won't get you arrested), a blanket and head over to the moontower pool. Alright, alright, alright.
8pm // McCarren Park Pool, Williamsburg // Free
EVENT: The idea of paying money to watch musicians try out new songs that might not work...is an interesting one. But if you're in to it, the Rejection Show is for you! The music series gives musicians a chance to take risks and try things that they think would otherwise be rejected by other events/shows/venues, cover songs, and much much more.
Tonight: The Lisps, Devon Sproule, Stickerbook and Ben Greenman
8pm // Ace of Clubs [9 Great Jones St] // $10
MUSIC: Avant jazz musician and defender of Tonic, Marc Ribot, is playing a free show tonight billed as "an evening showcasing three sides of his artistic breadth. He begins the show with a solo piece, followed by two of his ensembles, Spiritual Unity and Ceramic Dog." Take this opportunity to check out the guitarist.
7pm // World Financial Center // Free

Definitely gonna check out Dazed & Confused, thanks.
The New York Philharmonic is performing tonight on the Great Lawn in Central Park.
- Richard Strauss: Til Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks
- Puccini, Massenet, Catalani, Weber: Various Arias featuring soprano Measha Brueggergosman
- Mussorgsky/Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition
The concert will be followed by a fireworks display. For more info, visit: nyphil.org or centralparknyc.org/.
Also, bring non-perishable food for the New York Philharmonic and the Food Bank For New York City's collaborative week-long, citywide food drive. Representatives will be stationed at white-and-orange food bins located at the main entrances and next to the program stands.
In case there is anyone out there who doesn't know, Dazed & Confused is only the BEST. MOVIE. EVER! When you see the smarmy way Matthew McC giggles when he says "watch the leather" and Parker Posey yelling at the "Bitches" to "Fry like bacon!" You'll curse yourself for not having seen it sooner.
