Over the weekend, we spotted a new addition to Pinkberry’s Le Klint-inspired hanging lamps, pebble floors and ghost chairs.
At first we couldn't quite identify the boxy, gray, tubal contraption. Was it a kitchen gadget? An elephant? An intricate mouse trap? No, no and no. It was a MovinCool air conditioner!
In late spring, when a friend asked about air conditioning, a staffer said it was broken. Several weeks later, a staffer again said that it was broken. And so, with the MovinCool's, um, large presence, we figured the store would be as cold as a crosstown bus. Alas, we were wrong. On that recent post-park visit, there wasn't a hint of cool at the ‘berry.
And so we have to ask: Climate control as an afterthought at a yogurt store?
We've also heard that in the wake of rodent sightings at Pinkberry, the stores are banning cameras. And this month, Pinkberry opened its fourth New York shop on Spring Street.

Who buys this trendy garbage?
There is no faster way to identify yourself as a fool than to wait on line for frozen yogurt.
There's always been a no cameras allowed sign on the doors at the two Pinkberry's I've been to. This is not new, nor is it a response to the rats.
banning cameras in a Pinkberry? Jeez! I guess it's a national security thing... I was going to visit one near my job, but I guess I won't.
i've never been willing to wait in the lines. to someone who has, is it really that good?
I finally checked it out. My thoughts were
a) I really like the frozen yogurt! If you like a kind of plainish yogurt like Stonyfield farms, you'll like this.
b) It is kind of expensive.
c) It was practically wall-to-wall Asian girls. I felt like a perv for even being in there.
d) It was fucking loud. I was temping to confide to the guy behind the counter, "Dude, if I had to work in an environment like this, I'd fucking kill myself."
OKO in Park Slope is also the same deal. When I visited there was nothing resembling the crazy scene at Pinkberry.
Uh, "It was tempting to confide..."
aw.. i cant take photos of a frozen yogurt place for my flickr account?? what on earth am i going to do?
You can easily make very similar frozen yogurt at home, as I've posted the recipe for previously in basically all related posts.
If they're banning cameras, there must be something that they don't want photographed. Given that product and store photos are good publicity, I would assume that there is something else. Could it be mice? Worse?
Who knows? Obviously, they don't want you to know.
It is pretty good. I didn't know there was so much hype about these places. When I went into the one in Chelsea it was no more crowded than your average Tasti-Delite.
Meh. Pinkberry is overrated and overpriced. I enjoyed their yogurt but what's the deal with people waiting in lines that go out the door? It's not that good.
I walk by the UES pinkberry all the time, and every time I wonder why in the hell people are standing in line for frozen yogurt. People stand in line for the craziest stuff here. Frogurt, horrible bars in the meatpacking district, cupcake stores ... I don't get it.
I'm sure it's tasty and everything, rats or no rats, but it doesn't seem worth it to me to stand in a block-long line for *anything*, let alone frozen yogurt.
I wanted to go try it out but My grandfather said that Pinkberry was for faggots.
first, IT'S NOT FROZEN YOGURT. pinkberry was recently been required to remove that term from their website and advertising.
second, whatever it is isn't that good. It's like bitter dairy flavor with lemon. what makes it good is the mochi mixed with fruit. just go find an asian market and buy some mochi yourself, then stop at a grocery store for some sherbet and berries. it'll be cheaper and less pretentious.
I second the fact that ALL the Pinkberrys have the "No Cameras" sign on them since they have opened. This is not because of rats.
*********** Trust me, this in less then 18 months from now this trend will be gone.... I should know, I been in Food industry for over 20 years, just look at the National trend in Frozen yogurt for 2006, 10% decline, this industry has been declining for the past 6 years, you have to be a "sucker" to invest in something so trending, ... lines out the door... you know what they say... the Hotter it burns, the Faster it will die out....
