Openings Roundup

Sidecar: This new Park Slope spot is run by a former Blue Ribbon chef, features a contemporary American menu and is designed to be reminiscent of an old railroad dining car. The cocktail menu consists of classics like the gin fizz, interspersed with originals like "Dr. Tucker's 59," Plymouth gin with lemon and ginger. For now, however, the cocktails are only on the menu, not in the glasses -- they're still awaiting a liquor license, so feel free to BYO. 560 Fifth Avenue, between 15th and 16th Streets 718-369-0077.

STZ7FCOFW9Sea_Salt_small.jpgSea Salt: If you've grown weary of restaurants trying to do too many things, then take a break and head to the East Village. At Sea Salt, Orhan Yegen's focus is on seafood, Turkish style -- grilled whole fish, seasoned simply and served whole, with lemon, or salt-crusted red snapper, baked to perfection. 99 Second Avenue, near 6th Street, 212-979-5400.

Gemma: alums of the Maritime and Waverly Inn join forces to bring us a taste of Italy in the Bowery Hotel. The decor evokes images of a Tuscan farmhouse, complete with a wood-burning oven for firing up pizzas. Nibble on a range of cheeses, crostini, or antipasti, or if you're up for some hearty rustic fare, jump into the gnocchi bolognese or Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a 20 ounce porterhouse. 335 Bowery between 2nd and 3rd Streets, 212-505-9100.

Oklahoma Smoke BBQ: The secret is in the rub, from a recipe passed down from co-owner Paul Packard's grandfather, who owned the R & G Café in Lawton, Oklahoma. Add some smoke, and you've got 'cue galore. Add a job-training program, and you've got a thoughtful addition to the community. 231 W. 145th St., near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, 212-862-5335.
