Does anyone know when the Rock Center Farmers' Market is open? I've found conflicting info online and can't seem to find an "official" website.

    Thanks!

Graying guests is a bit annoying and ineffective. The "guest" handle is clear enough. Besides, the "member" handles are no less annonymous after all. "Accountability" in this case is just a choice for folks to build a clear identity, which should be a choice, not a requirement. Most readers of Gothamist got past 8th grade and can tell at a glance if we want to fully read a post or not. How can the the cutting edge of NYC blogs be so internet retro?

  • Outter Burrougher

Perhaps they have a basis for their claim (other than they were stopped and are black), but either way, isn't 400 million a tad excessive?

Stores are private property. The enumerated rights of the amendments to the Constitution do not apply to private action. Statutes may, the Constitution does not.

as an aside, people who shoplift:

    i) Teenagers

ii) Poor people - who in urban areas are disproportionately black

    iii)Winona Rider

^constitionally, you do not have to check your bag either.

Please tell me you are kidding.

The NEW YORK SUN is accusing someone ELSE of being pompous, middle aged, and lame? As they would say: "Oy. What chutzpah."

  • ^constitionally, you do not have to check your bag either.

What about Circuit City making me check my backpack??

  • guest

let me guess again, pinnacle = Jewish.

Toys r us never asked me for a receipt, the only big box store that stops everyone is Best Buy.

I've never been asked to show receipt and open bag at the other stores. And, only at J and R when you pick up from their pick up area.

    It's racial profiling. Nunca Mas.

Although I should add that when I say whatever they want I mean as long as they don't discriminate on the basis of race, gender, or religion. They can make everyone show a receipt and this white male has always been required to show a receipt at both Manhattan CompUSAs.

nobody is legally required to show a receipt upon leaving a store. so how can they sue if they weren't even legally required to show their receipts?

That doesn't make any sense. A store can do whatever it wants.

the same thing is posted twice?

  • funny thing, most of the people checking receipts, are black

  • guest

They're definitely profiling when they ask for your receipt. It's happened to me a lot less since I was struck by "lightening."

  • *Toys 'R' Us is being sued for $400 million by two women who were asked to show their sales receipts before leaving one of the chain's stores. They allege it is because they are black.*

They alledge? or maybe they're just fukcin ignorant assholes wasting tax payer money? A lot of stores ask to see sales receipts regardless of skin olor... to name a few:

    Best Buy

    Home Depot

    Comp USA

    Blockbuster

    H&M

    Virgin

    Century 21

maybe we, as educated citizens, should counter suit them for wasting the air we breath.

The Live Earth concerts did have lame lineups. But as Eddie Vedder told us at the 1998 Tibet Freedom Concert in DC, "Fuck you. We have your money now."
