Jose Reyes did all he could for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star Game in San Francisco, but his team was still undone by the American League's best. Reyes played eight innings, had three hits and a run scored, but that wasn't enough. Perhaps his best performance came when he pulled back his fist from Carlos Beltran and David Wright during the pregame introductions.
Billy Wagner's performance might have been the most damaging. The Mets closer allowed a two-run homer to Victor Martinez in the eighth. That put the NL down by three, but when Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer and the NL loaded the bases in the ninth, Wagner probably rued that pitch. As for the rest of the locals, they didn't want to make each other look bad so they put up identical lines -- Beltran, Wright, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada all went 1-for-3.
Local players did represent well in the white-shoe department. After being forced to wear dark-colored footwear during regular-season games, players can put on what they want at the Midsummer Classic. Rodriguez wore white shoes but would have looked better if he didn't wear his socks up below his knees. Jeter wore gray, and Reyes wore shoes with plenty of white splashed across them. Wright, who normally wears black and white, put on orange and white for one night only.

Wagner, Putz and Rodriguez stink up the joint...this is what happens when one Mariano Rivera is not playing. We should enjoy him while we can.
I blame LaRussa. He had the best hitter in the National League sitting on his bench in a game-winning spot and instead gave the nod to Aaron freaking Rowand.
LaRussa is a douche.

I thought about the ending of this game and I say LaRussa screwed this one royally ! I understand you want to get everybody into the game, but You still have to put the best hitter in the position to try to get the job done . Getting that "Job" done was not putting Aaron Rowand at the plate with the opportunity to win the game . No disrespect to Rowand but he's not the guy you want in that situation .
