Mets Fans, Meet the Express 7 Train

2007_07_mrmet.jpgIn non-report card 7 train news, the MTA is now offering express 7 service after Mets games during weeknight games. And the service will start after tomorrow's Mets-Cincinnati Reds game. Post-game express service will last an hour, with trains leaving Willets Point-Shea Stadium every six minutes. Trips to Queensboro Plaza will now take 13 minutes (from 19 when taking the local) and trips to Times Square will now take 25 minutes (from 31).

MTA Executive Director and CEO Elliot Sander said, "The introduction of weeknight post-game express service is a major component of an overall initiative with the Mets to get people out of their cars and onto the train. The subway has always been the fastest, most economical and ecologically-friendly way to travel to and from the game and the addition of express service makes it even more attractive." Hmm, will Mayor Bloomberg try to rope Mr. Met into appearing at a congestion pricing rally?

And funny: When asked about the possibility of 7 express service a few months ago, NYC Transit Authority spokesman Paul Fleuranges said it would be really hard to add express service.

And it should happen before and after weekend games, too.

Awesome, going to the game tomorrow too.

I'm going on Friday.

On another note, Ken Griffey Jr. is awesome.

Dumb idiots at the MTA. They decide to let people suffer for the first half of the season before A MIRACLE happens and they find a way to add express service. They don't care about the public. They could have added that express train a long time ago. They knew it would be a rough ride but they don't give a crap.

Sweet.

Not sure why it took so fucking long, but it's still a positive change.

This has been in the works for awhile. Some of players involved held it up. Cant wait to use it. No more LIRR

this is going to improve my personal quality of life as well as the planet's existence, because now i will not drive the car to a 7 station because i can't f'ing stand how goddamn long it takes the train to CRAWL along the line.

they are smoking CRACk if they think it's 19 minutes from Shea to Queensboro on a local after the game. SHARE THE DRUGS!

They decide to let people suffer for the first half of the season

Suffer? Prone to hyperbole much? It's six minutes faster to Times Square. Ooooooooh.

Wow! They save us a whole 6 minutes! What will I do with all that extra time...

Good point #8. It's only six minutes faster!??!?!? THE MTA CAN ROT IN HELL!!!!!!

THIS.....IS......SHEA STADIUM!!!!!!!

I call Shenanigans on 31 minutes to Times Square. It's at least 45 on the local.

#11: I heartily agree. From Flushing Main Street to Grand Central on the local, it's a little less than 40 minutes, and I take it every day (reverse commuting). Don't know about the express train travel time, since I'm always on the local.

this is great news!

but i think the time the MTA uses is just part of their fuzzy math. they probably timed it in optimal conditions - without opening doors at the stations and without passengers.
