Last Night's Action: Heading to the All-Star Break

  • Yankees 12, Angels 0: While the Yankees take three days off, they'll have pleasant thoughts about a rare laugher against the nemesis Angels. Alex Rodriguez, Hideki Matsui and Robinson Cano all hit three-run homers off Ervin Santana, one player involved in last winter's trade rumors surrounding Rodriguez. Despite winning five of seven, the Yanks enter the break under .500 for the first time since 1995. The good news? They made the playoffs as the wild-card team that year. The bad news? They trail the Red Sox by 10 games in the American League East.

  • Astros 8, Mets 3: When a team's highlights include Sandy Alomar Jr., things must be going great or going terribly. For the Mets, it's the latter. Alomar doubled home Jose Reyes long after the Mets had given up on this game, which ended up their sixth loss in eight games. With Atlanta's win in San Diego on Sunday, New York's lead is down to two games in the National League East.

  • Liberty 71, Monarchs 61: Returning home for the first time in two weeks helped the Liberty, which has beaten the WNBA finalists in successive games. At 10-8, they have a small chance at advancing that far in the playoffs this year, but who can tell with the unpredictability in this league?

  • Red Bulls 1, Rapids 0: John Wolyniec scored in the 19th minute and the Red Bulls saw the Rapids hit the post and the crossbar in the game's final nine minutes before holding on to the win.

  • Brooklyn 1, Jamestown 0: Three batters into the game, the Cyclones had all the runs they would need. Two hours and change later, they had their shutout victory.

  • Staten Island 5, Batavia 1: Donald Hollingsworth doubled and scored a run in a two-run second, the Baby Bombers tacked on three more in the fifth to cruise over the Muckdogs.
