Stephon Marbury has done some great things through his career on the basketball court and off the baseketball court. His Starbury line of affordable shoes and apparel, and giving back to the community in Coney Island with Starbury's Give Back Day.
This past Sunday, he went on Mike'd Up on WNBC to talk about his charity work and the Knicks with Bruce Beck (filling in for Mike Francesa). What followed was more than 9 minutes of hilarity.
Some highlights:
- Zach Randolph can make a college three and NBA threes. In fact, he has so many abilities it sounds like he can replace Marbury.Marbury refused to answer Beck's questions at the end of the interview about the upcoming season for the Knicks, but the interview didn't end there. At 8:42, Marbury decides to go a little more crazy, dancing for the camera and distracting Beck, talking all the way through the show's final highlight.- "Me trying to be the leader of the team, it's to try to convince them of a way, how, we can go steal a trophy. People are going to think we're crazy for talking like that, but if you believe it, you can achieve it."
- "I think I'm going to average like 10 points, like 12, 13 dimes, like 2, 3 assists and about 4, 5 rebounds."
- "Isiah Thomas is a "man's man and he can see the light."
- "We always wanna win the trophy. We call that shiny stuff. That's what the trophy is."
- "I don't shoot for that [the trophy] anymore. I shoot to win because I shoot to win, and that's it."
- When talking about his supposedly frosty relationship with Kevin Garnet: "Yeah we got along. We played basketball together, we didn't go home and sleep in the same bed with each other. We played basketball."
- At one point (7:05 into the video), Marbury gets a phone call, "I'm sorry. That's my better half. That's my better 'ho. My better half, my wife."
One thing's for sure, Bruce Beck deserves an Emmy for this interview and Stephon deserves one as a special guest star.

Marbury's show "Stars on Stars" is also really fun: Check out this Kobe Bryant interview.
Trying to listen to Marbury speak gives me an anxiety attack.
Marbury is not articulate.
I'll tell you exactly why it is hilarious for you to watch this video: you are a racist.
Stephon Marbury is a professional athelete. He's not Al Gore, not a public speaker, not an English teacher. He is paid money to play basketball because he was given talent to play the game--most probably superior to your own respective talent to write on this website.
Now if you were a real man, you would understand that some people aren't blessed equally, and for you and all the other critics in new york to constantly chide and blast these athletes just perpetuates more racism in our society. Do you really fell better about yourself for giving a man who is trying to give back to his community, more negative publicity? Seriously? He is doing the best he can, and all you can do is laugh about it? What species are you, anyway? Elitist superhuman?
None of you get it. You consider yourself so separate from other people, its like you sit upon a throne while other people scurry at your feet. Who do you think you are? I'd love to meet you in person and look you right in the eye and tell you that your work is straight up corruption to our society.
Best regards,
Ken
Ken,
I don't know what race you are, but I am racist against incoherent rambling and therefore I hate you.
Matt
Ken,
You may have a valid point about the unfairness of passing literary judgement on a basketball player.
It smacks of elitism.
However, just because Stephon is black does NOT make it racism.
Everyone loves to throw around claims of racism, sexism, and all types of -isms, most of which are unfounded.
Just because something happens to a black man does not it racist. Just because something happens to a woman does not make it sexism.
You're weakening the import of legitimate claims of racism with this faulty logic.
a mind is a terrible thing to waste
Yo! I was watching this and it was crazy. I was like what the fuck?? this dude talks like a 5th grader. Did he go to college? seriously, this guy has his own talk show on MSG too. The funniest thing is that Isiah Thomas is an even worse public speaker. I used to cringe when I heard his analysis on NBC. Imagine Having Isiah Thomas, Stephon Marbury and Magic Johnson in a pow wow? it would be ridiculous. Is it for show? does he dumb it down? Another weird thing is that Kenny "the Jet" Smith is so articulate on NBA on TNT with Charles Barkley but he sounds like a fool doing color commentary for the knicks. What gives?
Dear Matt,
Don't just make unfounded statements of inconsistency, back it up--bring it. Let's hear you make your point. And don't look to what anyone else here wrote, please try to form your own ideas. To weakly proclaim that someone is incoherent isn't to justify your position on the subject, whatever it may be--you didn't say a damn thing about the actual issue I brought up, incidentally.
As it stands, I explained why I feel the NY media, this website included, is so biased against local athletes, particularly Stephon Marbury and Isiah Thomas. It is probably just perpetually lazy journalism, to rehash how bad the knicks are, how stupid Isiah or Stephon is. I for one am tired of it. Its not even close to the first time this website has talked shit on the knicks, so it doesn't bother me one bit, if, while in the process of reflecting this negativity back to its origins, people like you happen to get your panties in a bunch over opinions like my own.
Now if you have personal relations with the author, I can understand your hatred entirely.
Either way, your said hatred is a cancer--keep it in check or it or someone else will destroy you.
"Marbury refused to answer Beck's questions at the end of the interview about the upcoming season for the Knicks, but the interview didn't end there"
YOU MAY NOT KNOW LAST TIME STEPH GOT COERCED INTO A QUESTION LIKE THIS IT WAS "DO YOU THINK YOU ARE THE BEST POINT GUARD IN THE NBA?" LIKE ANY CONFIDENT ATHELETE IN THE PROS, HE SAID YES, AND THE PAPERS HAMMERED HIM FOR THE NEXT YEAR AND A HALF. SEEMS LIKE HE WAS JUST TRYING NOT TO SAY THE WRONG THING THIS TIME AROUND BY NOT MAKING A COMMENT HE MIGHT REGRET.
Stephon Marbury: Yo! waddup son! Waht's crackalacking my niggers? You know wats' up Forizzle dizzle! YaknowatI'msaying Bro! - this is how Stephon actually talks.
Stephon Marbury is a dumb jock who can't put three sentences together coherently. That's not a racist thing to say. There are dumb, inarticulate white jocks, there are dumb inarticulate black jocks. There are also intelligent black athletes and intelligent white athletes.
Marbury isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. But at least he's a dumb jock with a heart. He's done some good stuff off the court, and for that I respect him.
Seems like he's having a contest with Paula Abdul. Whoops, I guess I'm a sexist and a racist.
"at the end of the day, if you don't win the champinship, we all loses"
priceless.
