  • Yankees 5 Minnesota 1: It should have been a great night at the ballpark. Roger Clemens became only the 8th pitcher to win 350 games and Bobby Abreu hit a monster home run, into the middle of the upper-deck in right, but it was all overshadowed by A-Rod.

This wasn’t about his wife’s t-shirt or a dramatic play on the field, but the sight of A-Rod grabbing his right leg after running to first in the sixth inning. A-Rod stayed in the game momentarily, but left after one more batter when Larry Bowa came over and convinced him to sit down. The team announced it was a hamstring strain, but after the game a dejected A-Rod told the press that he would have to see what his hamstring felt like in the morning, but he wasn’t hopeful The Yankees can ill-afford to lose their best hitter right now.

  • Colorado 6 Mets 2: The Rockies made quick work of Tom Glavine, jumping on him for six runs in the third inning as they cruised to an easy win in the series opener.
  • Brooklyn 6 Aberdeen 3 (10 innings): The Cyclones lost their lead in the ninth, only to explode for four runs in the tenth to turn Stephen Cline into the winning pitcher.
  • Hudson Valley 5 Staten Island 4: The Baby Bombers made it close in the end, but they could only manage five hits against the Renegades.

Bowa didn't convince Rodriguez to leave the game. Rodriguez felt that, with the pain, he wouldn't be able to score from second on a single and left on his own, since he was no good to the team in that situation
