Of all the days and in all the neighborhoods for this to happen: On Sunday, the Daily News reports that Khadijah Farmer, a "masculine lesbian," was kicked out of the women's bathroom at the Caliente Cab Co. on Seventh Avenue in the West Village. And this happened to be a few hours after the Gay Pride Parade!
Farmer says that when she went into the ladies' room, another woman gave her a look and said, "This is the women's bathroom."
"I replied, 'I know that. Thank you. This is where I'm supposed to be,'" Farmer said, noting that she was wearing a yellow polo shirt, blue jeans and sneakers. The restaurant declined to comment, but the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund wants the Caliente Cab Co. to compensate her for violating her civil rights.Moments later, a bouncer burst into the ladies room and began banging on her stall and yelling at her to leave, she said.
The bouncer refused to believe that Farmer was a woman even after she emerged from the stall and attempted to show him her driver's license, she said.
"He totally dismissed that," she said, adding that the bouncer told her "he wanted me out of his bathroom and restaurant."
And a Brooklyn bar has been under fire over allegations a bouncer beat up a gay patron.

Well, Well, well, what do we have here?
Another bouncer hired from the Union Pool pool.
She should have just flashed him.
I hope people will respect butch looking lesbians This way I can get a fake drivers license that says I am a woman and go into the womens bathroom and sneak a peek at all their beautiful glory.
Awesome. I am totally going to get into the women's bathroom now!
could we NOT throw more oil on the inferno that is gothamist's irresponsible reporting of the union pool incident? STOP trying to spin it into a gay bashing story. PLEASE?????
this incident, however, clearly smacks of homophobic harrassment. butches always get the raw deal.
and on a side note, i love that her name is khadijah. i bet her mom was a fan of LIVING SINGLE.
I bet her mother was thinking of the more righteous point of view that the name holds. I'd also be willing to bet my life and all of youre money her mother is very proud and supportive that her daughter is living up to that name and standing up for her rights. Grow up NYC and realize things for what they are and stop making them what you want them to be.
Well if you"ladies" want so bad to dress like guys then this is something that Ur going to have to endure ! Even though the bouncer should have cut her some slack after she showed her drivers license . Come on now she proved who she was and they still harassed her . Posted By; "Still Not Amused"
You know, the "masculine lesbian" is in total control of the way she looks. It's not like she's handicapped or has a birth defect that people are discriminating against. She chooses to make herself look like a man and then gets angry when someone takes her for one. It sounds to me like she's trying constantly to provoke an argument, like someone who dyes their hair green and then complains that everyone is always staring at them. TFB!
You've got to be kidding if you all want to fall into your own little gender conformities. C'mon. Butch or femme does not dictate gender.
Response to the person who defends Union Pool in Wiliamsburg:
Try to educate yourself and read the comments from people that have been treated in a despicable manner at the Union Pool...just google them.
I myself, used to frequent Union Pool and witnessed behaviour from a certain male barkeep, blatantly ignoring customers and making small talk with "Under the breath" mocking comments...in regards to not only sexual orientations and clothing but also foreign accents.
Now, not everyone working the bar or door are to be blamed for this, but it seems like wknd staff is the cause of most complaints.
However, it was not a wknd but rather middle of the week "5 de mayo" night in particular... People dancing, being lively both inside and outside in the patio. There was a guy with a guitar and a girl with a whistle and some folks with miniature toy maracas.
I was outside smoking when saw the guy with maracas being ejected for disturbing the patrons...what kind of Bs is that? specially since the place was so loud no one could care less about about a person dancing with friends with party favors.
It's a pity how a good place for bands like the union pool won't own up and straighten their staff.

She didn't choose to look "like a man". She chose to look like herself. Some women are masculine looking. Some women like short hair. Many women don't like makeup. You are suggesting that she TRY to look like your idea of how a woman should look. When you gotta pee, you gotta pee. If she identified as a transgendered male and used the men's room I'm sure just as many people would be upset. You just can't win with idiots can you?
The issue here is, Someone complained that a guy was in the ladies room . The bouncer acted of instinct,(Even though he should have took her identification as authentic) It's not an issue of women dressing in a particular manner . This has to do with "Personal Identification" For some women it's a very convincing guise to dress up like a guy and walk the streets . For other's it's not, This was a case where the Woman in question apparently fooled the bouncer and was ejected from the ladies room . Maybe if she had of dressed more feminine this would have never occurred . Mistakes were made by both parties here and it seems as if the whole story wasn't known here . I suppose this will leak-out within the coming days now that she's contemplating legal action . Posted By; "Still Not Amused"
