PARTY: It's hot out, so what better way to cool down than with a pool party? Impetuous Theater Company is having a fundraiser tonight on the roof of the Holiday Inn Midtown. Scenes from the upcoming aquatic theater festival will be performed, there will be free beer and wine from 7 to 9pm, and there will be a pool in which to fully submerge yourself (who needs a/c?).
7pm to 12am // The Holiday Inn Midtown [440 W 57th St] // $25
READING: Cynthia Rowley doesn't just design clothes, she also constructs books. Tonight she reads from her own faux-memoir, Slim, comprised of half fact/half fiction vignettes, and illustrations by Rowley herself.

MUSIC: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will be taking the Hudson River Park stage with The Dollyrots and The Paybacks tonight. The queen of punk has a new album out called Sinner, but we're guessing she'll humor you with a little "I Love Rock n' Roll."
7pm // Hudson River Park, Pier 54 // Free
Moby is in a little band called The Little Death, and they're taking the stage tonight. He'll be playing some guitar, and some bass, and whatever else his little vegan heart desires to play. James Maddock and Reverend Jen open.
9:30pm // The Annex [152 Orchard St] // $10
THEATER: In 1921, Prague theatergoers bore witness to Karel Čapek’s haunting play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots). The play, which is set in an android factory, became famous for popularizing the term robot – the Czech word robota means drudgery or servitude. Tonight the “radio-transmission based” theater company 31 Down unveils their interpretation of R.U.R. and other works by Čapek (and his brother/collaborator Josef). The company’s Universal Robots will feature their trademark fusion of “radio transmissions, wireless devices, home security systems and network technologies to expand and contract traditional theatrical spaces.” – John Del Signore
