Daily News Leaves (Most of) Paris to the Post

Many times, the city's two tabloids will put the same, salacious celebrity dirt on their covers. But today is a good example of how the Post and Daily News can sometimes diverge: The Post goes lowbrow with Paris Hilton coverage, while the Daily News take a high road by focusing on the funeral of a Brooklyn firefighter. The News did concede to the news of a freed Paris Hilton with a teaser, though.

What do you prefer from the tabloids?

i think coverage of the fireman's funeral is the most appropriate, but the "v-d day!" headline is brilliant.

How in hell can Dow Jones trust Murdorh on keeping the WSJ's journalistic integrity, after what the NYP has become since he was in charge?

Expect a daily section in the WSJ on pure Hollywood gossips run by the Page 6 people.

"How in hell can Dow Jones trust Murdorh on keeping the WSJ's journalistic integrity"

News Corp owns the London Times, and its still a very reputable paper. But that does not mean that Murdorh doesn't in some way to sway its reporting. Anything is possible, but its premature to think that the WSJ will turn into something akin to the New York Post.

But then again, He DOES own the Sun, which is actually worse than the Post....(Though I do love page 3)

To be continued...

I would probably prefer news from my tabloids. I'm so old fashioned, but of course, that's not the point of them. I agree with tien mao, the Post's headline is brilliant but the funeral is more appropriate.

The Daily News really hits home with that shot, but the banner about Ms. Hilton was not needed. Newsday also has a good front page, but the Post? Come on.

As for the WSJ situation, Rupert's cronies read the paper and I don't think he wants to upset them, plus the WSJ's editorial page seems to be in step with his POV.

correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the news was not supposed to use photoshop on images?

I prefer neither of those papers, they're both mostly big piles of crap. Guest [4] is right about Newsday. Newspapers reporting NEWS, imagine that.

Why do I give a fuck about Paris Hilton getting out of jail? CNN just bumped Michael Moore for her. You're telling me that some stupid spoiled whore is more important than our failing health care system? Give me a fucking break.

I only read a tabloid newspaper when I'm hungover in the morning and cant tolerate actual news with substance.

Anyone else think "So Long, Son" is a bit flippant?

'Anyone else think "So Long, Son" is a bit flippant?'

Now that you mention it, I do. But next do "V-D Day" it looked like the epitome of class. But yeah... "so long?" Lame.

I think newspapers are allowed to use photoshopped images as long as they have a caption stating it's a digitally manipulated image. I can't see the Paris Hilton front page close enough, and I'm not spending my hard earned quarter on that rubbish to make sure.

The sad thing is how the Iraq war is such a background issue now it barely makes in the front ten pages nowadays.

Remember how the Iran hostage crisis was being measured out in days? "America Held Hostage - Day 433"

Why hasn't anyone started "War in Iraq - Day 1559"?

I'm thinking perhaps the father said, "So long, son?" Maybe it is a quote.

But would anyone want their tragic story covered on a tabloid paper?
