  • Mets 10 Oakland 2: What a difference a week makes, the Mets snapped out of their recent slump and swept Oakland this weekend, finishing them Sunday with an easy win.

As usual, Jose Reyes got things going, 3-for-4 with a RBI and a double. Valentin and Gomes added three hits and John Maine pitched seven great innings to send the Mets to the victory. The division lead is now 3-games and a big series with Philadelphia is coming up.

  • Giants 7 Yankees 2: Losing two of three to the Giants should end any talk of a division title The fans got to see Bonds vs. Clemens, but with the deficit at 11 ½ games, the Yankees have to try and figure out a way to get above .500 and contend for the wild card.

  • Fever 74 Liberty 63: After staring the season 5-0, the Liberty now find themselves at 7-6 after a loss to the Fever. The Liberty pulled to within 6 points with under four minutes to play, but the Fever went on a 7-1 run to put the game away.

  • Renegades 5 Cyclones 1: On a night where the last pitch of the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field was reenacted by former Dodgers Danny McDevitt and Joe Pignatano, the Cyclones lost and committed four errors.

  • Yankees 9 Ironbirds 1: The Yankees finally picked up their second win this season.

It is good to have the Mets win some. The series with the worst team in the history of pro sports (The Phillies), which has somehow managed to sneak into second place, is going to turn out something more than we expected earlier in the season now.

I went to the cyclones game last night. It was my first time, and it was really great. It's nice to watch some real baseball in a nice clean park where you can sit close to the action, without all the crazyness of a major league game. I'm going back.

[Jonny] Gomes plays for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. (Or he would if he weren't hurt.)

[Carlos] Gomez plays for the Mets.

Fact checker: The Yankee game was 7-2. The truth is bad enough, you don't need to embellish it with carelessness.

SP - did you stuff yourself on the $.25 hot dogs before the game?
