Something we're positive you'll be hearing more about in the next few days: Civil rights lawyer Michael Warren and his wife Evelyn were arrested after they allegedly interfered with a police arrest at Atlantic and Vanderbilt Avenues in Brooklyn. Warren, who has represented Tupac Shakur, members of the Black Panthers and Abner Louima, said, "I got hit in the jaw, upside the head and on my lip a few times, and you can can see that my pants are torn, but I'm fine. I'm great."
The Warrens were driving and claim that narcotics officers were beating up a man suspected of drug possession and auto theft. The Warrens got out and criticized the officers; Evelyn Warren allegedly scratched a female officer's face. The pair got back into their car and refused to come out, so they dragged them out and arrested Michael Warren for obstructing governmental administration and gave Evelyn Warren a summons for disorderly conduct.
A crowd of 200 people waited outside the 77th Precinct for five hours until the Warrens to came out. Warren is also described as a "pal" of the Reverend Al Sharpton and as a lawyer who specializes in police misconduct cases. This sounds like the start of a lawsuit.

Just noticed the cute girl in the Gothamist t-shirt ad on the left there. She's got some big titties and perky nipples to match. I applaud you!
yeah this should be a fun few days of posts
Some arrogant lawyer tries to stop cops from amking an arrest? Is this guy a dumbass or what?
"Some arrogant lawyer tries to stop cops from amking an arrest? Is this guy a dumbass or what?"
No. A Civil Rights attorney saw police officers beating a man and he did what he thought was the right thing to do, given his experience and knowledge of the law. Hhe got out of his car and said, "You can't do that!" They then proceeded to beat him up as well and arrest him.
I suppose it was somewhat predictable that he'd get beat up as well. I coward who doesn't want to stand up for others would say he's a "dumbass."
A man that spends his life dealing with these issues and sticks his neck out for another man, knowing what he risks, I would say that this man is brave.
he aint even do nuttin why he get arrested yo! he aint guilty his girl aint guilty and the brutha they arrested aint guilty.
thank you.
Jen and Civil Rights stories. Contintental Airlines and feces. Both cups runneth over.
That's why I luv jen. she's for the underdog, the people with no voice. You may see it otherwise but I sure don't.
Its not that all cops are always brutal or wrong; but could we please get enough training for these cops so they aren't walking around like time-bombs. You have to be trained and informed about the law to be a cop. Its not enough to just turn into a prick with a gun and a club because you are scared and you just can't assess the situation. You have to have true bravery to uphold the constitution. Overall, the cops are a big disappointment. We should expect and demand a higher standard of law enforcement, period; even before we start accusing them of profiling and cop brutality. Its a difficult job and we need well trained people who are up to the task in New York City.
#8,
Is it possible that the officers were effectuating a constitutionally valid arrest when these two "freedom fighters" stopped what they were doing and got involved?
Why assume the officers did anything wrong?
when they roughed up the lawyer and his spouse.
that's when it happened. You don't get hit on the lip and torn pants playing patty cake.
The spouse scratched the female officer's face, why wouldn't they be arrested? Especially if they were obstructing the arrest of the dealer/car thief, and refused to come out of their car after she scratched the officer.
NYPD=hates black people
NYPD=always did hate black people
therefore
NYPD=racism
remember uncle Ben? oh how they hated him
of course, they can't vote anywhere in the five boroughs because most cops don't live in the five
boroughs. Prove me wrong.
that's why I dance my jig whenever a cops dies or get raped.

I'm not saying the cops were wrong or right in this particular situation. I do, however stand by my earlier post overall.
So an arrest is now debatable on the street? Sgt's will now say, "hold on boys" stop arresting that resissting, drug-dealing, gun-toting gentlemen, while we stop and discuss our honorable intentions, with these passerbys who just happened to drive by and didn't see our 6 hours of survelliance prior to the arrest."
There are channels to handle complaints, interferring with an active arrest is not smart. This couple was looking for a confrontation. Also they certainly don't look injured in anyway, and visible injuries are required to be "assaulted".
They in trouble now, this ain't no thug,
it's 2 lawyers,
bravo Mr. Warren, you stood up where you saw injustice. We NEED more like you.
He didn't stop an arrest, he stopped where he saw cops beating up a suspect like he was rag doll.
Bravo Mr. Warren, We need more people like you.
Never again.
Why should we allow this type of injustice to plague our communities? This is what has segregated blacks from blacks since slavery. This is the poison that has left me no choice but to retaliate with force. We can not up lift our own people with this daily and vicious presence in our community fight back people, fight back people, fight back Black Latino and Native Americans. We owe that to our ancestors!
" lets retaliate and seek revenge with fire dont wait prosecute racist cops now now do it now don t wait"
#12: The NYPD is made up of a high percentage of minority officers (blacks and latinos especially). To criticize people that put their lives on the line to deal with the scum of this city is beyond arrogant. I'm sure this media hungry lawyer would not have stopped if this were a white kid getting beaten up by the cops. Such BS.
