With Kobe Bryant's trade demands in and out of the news, Gothamist wonders what Isiah Thomas would give up to put Bryant in a Knicks uniform. If you follow basketball, you know that Kobe has on again, off again, on again trade demands, and there's a video being shopped around where Kobe says some disparaging words about Lakers management and Andrew Bynum. The Lakers say that they won't be trading Kobe - and why would they - but when Thomas first heard of Byrant's trade request, he did think of a package.
The Daily News thinks it would take a miracle for the Knicks to get Kobe. The News talked to one basketball executive who said the Knicks trade package would be the less than breathtaking combination of Jamal Crawford, Channing Frye and David Lee - Eddy Curry is supposedly untouchable. The exec also says:
"Are you kidding me? If you were allowed to trade the Knicks entire roster for Kobe, I bet they would still win 33 games next season with Kobe and a few rookies, young players and veterans.Ouch. The truth sure hurts! It's almost more surprising that Thomas wouldn't trade the team's 1st round draft pick for the next 10 years along with Crawford, Frye and Lee."The Lakers are not going to trade the best player in the league for three guys that were not even full-time starters last season."
Of course, all this is irrelevant because the Lakers would be foolish to trade Bryant to anyone this off season (Bryant can't opt out of his contract until after the 08-09 season). And Bryant, who reportedly says he wants to go to the Bulls in the video, would be foolish to accept a trade to the Knicks. Especially since they would have to mortgage their future to get him.

Why is it all the dirtbags gravitate toward the NY teams?
because the dirtbags that own the knicks have no clue how to manage a franchise, and being the thieves that they are...
fuck dolan
As much As I've despised the KNICKS for letting me down this past decade and as much as I fucking Hate rapist Kobe, if kobe came to the Knicks I would watch them again. If not for the sheer entertainment value of kobe versus dolan and isiah. I mean Larry brown versus Isiah wasn't too exciting cause it was old people but Kobe is the most dominant basketball player today. As long as they get kobe and throw stephon off the brooklyn bridge.
exactly what nyc needs, one more rapist roaming the streets.
Interest in the Knicks peaked in 1994.
To be honest, it doesn't exactly sound like any of you are actual basketball fans, let alone Knick fans, but that's what you get when you write about the knicks on website devoted to hipsters complaining about the newest Calatrava and gentrification in NYC.
Jordan, the player most commonly compared to Kobe, won his first title at the same age Kobe is now, so the comment about risking the Knicks' future to get him is worthless. Jordan won 6 titles and would have won more had he not retired to play baseball in the minors.
Across all sports, professional athletes have often failed to be model citizens in their personal lives. Their impulsive temperment is exactly what makes them dominant on the court, and yet people are surprised when they act foolishly away from the bright lights of the arena.
The only thing I agree with in all of your comments is Dolan's influence on this Knicks team. he thinks that collecting a bunch of squeaky clean kids equals a fun team to watch, when in fact it has nothing to do with basketball. Allan Houston should have left New York, not Spree.
Because the knicks have not competed, I wouldn't complain if the Knicks got Kobe, but I don't think he is a team player, he is just a very accomplished and talented ball hog who happened to play with shaq. Shaq has won a title since they split, Kobe has not (this makes him hungry, something that is actually a plus). Kobe's selfishness may actually draw him to the knicks, because interest in the NBA is at an all-time low, and if Kobe was to come to a major market like new york and bring success with him, the arguement could be made that he is greater than Jordan (what he is striving for with the 23+1 jersey --no it's not because of mike d'antoni. The only time I'd complain is if Chicago got him instead of New York, because I hate Chicago to this day.
The knicks have not been to the playoffs in many years, and for that reason Isiah should have been fired last year. Dolan has blind faith in Isiah, so the knicks will have to improve with him at the helm, somehow.
If any two self-serving (though talented) jerks in this world deserve each other, it's Isiah Thomas and Bryant. Rarely could a man ruin a franchise on self-regard alone, but both these fellows have done it. Granted, neither Jerry Buss nor the Dolans needed much help in this regard. Still, Thomas and Bryant - with their ability to make a team sport all about them AND to skirt harassment suits - are a match made in heaven. Let's hope it never comes to pass and that both these gentlemen find new showcases for their large talents and larger ids.
Ugh. I'm not watching the Knicks until Isaiah is gone and this will not help. I hate Kobe Bryant. He's a great player, but an awful teammate and even worse person.
#6- you are an idiot to think that Spree was better than Allan Houston. THey were both better than average players. Allan Houston always had better numbers shooting wise. The only difference was that SPree acted like a dick on and off the court and was chest bumping and growling every time he dunked like he was the only one who could dunk or something. That's the travesty of the Knicks, they made superstars out of better than average players like Ewing, Starks, and Marbury who if in a small market team would be equivalent of a Andre Igoudala now just because they scream and play to the crowd. The only thing Allan Houston's problem was that his contract was ridikulous. They should have paid him half his contract and not sign like half the guys with him. But can't cry about it now. Only hope is if Jim dolan has a heart attack.
They still have basketball? Huh, I thought everyone stopped caring about that crap years ago.
#10, you must have been thinking about hockey. Nobody follows that anymore.
"The only thing Allan Houston's problem was that his contract was ridikulous. "
A. Nice grammar, sentence structure and spelling--are you by chance a public school English teacher?
B. No. Allan Houston's only problem wasn't that he had a bad contract issued to him by Layden.
1. He played no defense.
2. He had a bad knee that severely limited his mobility for over 50% of the said 100 million dollar contract.
Considering all of the above, forgive me if I don't pay too much interest in whom you consider to be an idiot. That's like the pot calling the kettle black. Perhaps you should smoke less trees.
kind regards,

Hell No ! If Kobe is considering coming to New York then he should just retire now ! Posted by; "Still Not Amused"
