The State Assembly voted in favor of allowing same-sex marriages in New York. Newsday said it was the first time a gay marriage bill was "debated publicly in one of the houses of the State Legislature Tuesday." However, the bill is not expected to make it pass the Republican-controlled Senate. Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno said, "We're not doing gay marriage by [tomorrow's adjournment], that's for sure."
The Sun had a breakdown of how the NYC Assembly members voted:
All 12 Manhattan Assembly members backed the legislation, including Speaker Silver, while support was weaker in Brooklyn (11 Democrats for; seven, including Diane Gordon, Dov Hikind, and Steven Cymbrowitz against, two absent); Queens (15 Democrats for, three, including Margaret Markey, against); the Bronx (seven Democrats for; three against, one absent); and Staten Island (three Democrats for, one Republican against).Hikind said before the Assembly, "There are certain things that do not change for me unless God sends a message to me," - and then thunder sounded, causing everyone to laugh. And the bill was introduced by Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell, who represents Morningside Heights and is the brother of Rosie.
And though the Senate won't deal with gay marriage before the session is over, we're sure that the Gay Pride Parade this weekend will be celebrating the Assembly's work. But there's some debate about what Gay Pride means and what class and race may have to do with attending the parade - check out the Observer's article, Goodbye, Mr. Chaps.

not surprised shelly silver voted yes, he's used to fucking us all up the ass anyway!
"and then thunder sounded, causing everyone to laugh" except for God.
ha of course its on the bill right before session ends. and they can forget all about it in the fall.
and that article makes me sad about the parade. i've never been to one and was really looking forward to it this weekend.
Christin Quinn is pretty sexy.
Egan, out.

Has anyone else noticed that Joseph Bruno is a total jackass?
Something is wrong with people who want to allow gay marriage...it's just wrong, liberals can throw tons of arguments at me....but it's still wrong...
The funny thing is democrats don't really care, they just want publicity on how "open minded" they are...nah just wrong. US is getting lame on social matters, soon it will be as lame as Europe.
the reasson we feel that gay marriage is wrong is because it is wrong. We were created to kive with a spouse of the opposite sex.
I for one think its quite sad we are reverting to the dark ages. Gay marriage should be legal everywhere.
I guess I hold my creation in higher esteem than you do, because I don't for one second believe that my purpose on this Earth is to "kive with a spouse of the opposite sex". People belong with the partner of their choosing, and marital benefits, which are of a civil nature, need to be open to everyone.
amen ^
I like how everyone who is against gay marriage has no actual reason other than "it's wrong" or "God says no". Really, God talks to you? Does he had your cell number?
Grow up, people. Whether you feel comfortable or not, people deserve equal rights. Might I remind everyone that 50 years ago, mixed race marriages were illegal?
You'd be surprised at how many people in this fucking city probably still wish they were. It's sad that New York -both the city and state- is one of the most 'progressive' in the union but is still so incredibly slow at progressing.
