From shelter pets to sheep updates, there are many animals in the news:
- 1010 WINS listeners helped donate a year's worth of Viagra pills to help a dog. Ingrid, a mixed-breed who lives at Little Shelter Animal Adoption Center in Huntington, has a severe and advanced case of heartworm; the Viagra helps dilate her blood vessels so more blood can flow to her heart. And even though she has about a year's supply, she'll still need more, so send some Viagra or donations over to the Little Shelter.
- There's a controversy about a red-tailed hawk that was rescued from West 55th Street last week. The 6-week-old hawk fell when trying to fly, and a licensed wildlife rehabilitator named Bobby Horvath brought it to his Long Island home. But some, including Pale Male follower Lincoln Karim, are complaining that the hawk should be release back into NYC's nature as soon as possible. Horvath says the bird is "too young. If he flies out of the park he could easily get hit by a cab or bus. He could get eaten by a raccoon on his first night."

- Another follow-up to last week's animal news: The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals chauffeured the little lamb found wandering in the Bronx up to Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen . And lamb, named Lucky Lady, wasn't the only lucky one headed up there: Six chickens found in Brooklyn were also along for the trip.

Farm Sanctuary is in Watkins Glen, there's no such place as Glen Watkins. But there's probably a guy names Glen Watkins somewhere.
Re: the 6-week old red-tail hawk
Since the baby hawk wasn't injured, a lot of people are concerned that he is being held unnecessarily by the wildlife rehabilitator.
It is now a very critical time in the baby hawk's development to learn the essential flying and hunting survival skills from his parents. By keeping him away too long from his parents, a window of opportunity could be lost forever.
If that happens, this baby hawk could be doomed to spend the remainder of its life in a cage at one of those wildlife places for raptors who lack the ability to survive in the wild.
Hahahaha, Glenn Watkins, nice one...
Donating Viagra to the she-dog... there's a joke in there somewhere...
Controversy over. "Ziggy" was released at the south end of Central Park Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a baby red-tail was rescued in Jersey City last Thursday, and I have yet to hear anyone claim that his rights were violated.
